"Dollhouse" probably cancelled - THX FOX

People like us lose every time a genre show is cancelled.

No, if that show is a pile of crap, we WIN. It gets the message across that SF fans aren't a pile of losers that watch anything SF no matter how bad it is; and as a result, next SF show/movie has a higher chance of actually being good.

On balance, I'd say it's a loss to genre fans when any sci fi show bites the dust. TV honchos don't think in such fine distinctions. They lump all sci fi into the same category, the way cop shows, doctor shows and sitcoms are categories. What's trending up? What's trending down? That's how the decisions get made.

And if they get the message that sci fi fans are picky and won't bite at any old crap, that just makes us seem too fussy and hard to please to bother with. Better to use an open timeslot to cater to police procedural fans, who aren't so high maintenance. Eyeballs are eyeballs, after all.

i am shocked that some letter writing campaign wasn't taken up before the show aired because everyone should have seen this coming.

Don't you remember the Save Dollhouse campaign from last fall? That launched months before the show did. :D

Dollhouse not canceled. Yet.

The 13th episode, apparently, was not ordered by the network, but by the studio. Fox never paid for it, and never intended to air it. It's purely a bonus episode to round out the DVD, because the DVD deal called for 13 complete episodes, and they butchered the original pilot for parts once Fox scrapped it, so it was unusable.

Okay, looks like a Whedon show may yet still survive on FOX...perhaps the curse has been broken?

Well, I have to agree on the major networks not giving new shows that actually come off as creative a chance. Just look at what NBC did to Kings, and that became one of my favorites shows after the premier...

Kings wasn't a show that I cared to try so I've not followed its story.
Did it premier bad and has already been pulled? Cancelled?

Oh man, all the negativity and ceaseless bashing. This must be what it feels like to be a Voyager fan.

I think Dollhouse started out average and has improved ever since. Certainly some of the actors are better than the others but no one's Heroes level scene chewing. And the premise is wide open. The leads can do anything which lends itself to more stories than, say, a crime fighting car or a guy who wonders the country trying not to get angry (because you wouldn't like him when he gets angry).

The ratings stink, so it's been booted to Sat night and left to die.

NBC hardly promoted the show, stuck it with a lousy timeslot and didn't let many people know what it was about to begin with. So now that the ratings predictably tanked they've sent it to the Saturday deathslot. Fortunately the first season was 100% complete before anything aired and they are going to show it all, meaning at least the story will be complete with no cliffhangers.

Except Voyager deserved it.
;)

Some of the comments in this thread are the very reason why I backed away from scifi fandom online a while back, and haven't posted here but sporatically these past few years. It's no longer entertaining to watch back and forth sniping about a television program (IMO, of course).

I'm of two minds regarding Dollhouse. One the one hand, I'm not too into the series at this point. I watch it online when I have the time. I still have to catch up on the nest few episodes. So I won't be that affected if the series is cancelled.

On the other hand, I'm such a huge fan of Whedon's work and Firefly in particular that it hurts to see history repeating itself, and it's a shame that Whedon would have so many failures and/or deals fall through these past few years. He's easily one of the best writers working on television today, and arguably he hasn't had a huge success since Buffy!

I was not too bothered about this show going untill i saw this weeks ep now i want this show to live.
But when i wanted enterprise to die it just kept coming and when i wanted it to live the network killed it so i don't hold out much hope for doll's house.:(

I don't begrudge anyone for not liking the series. Whedon has certainly produced real duds in the past (the Buffy-verse shows certainly dragged toward the end and the sooner Alien: Resurrection is forgotten the better).

I just don't get why the only attention Dollhouse seems to be getting is borderline hostile. It's not like it's a long running series that took a turn for the worse. People have nothing invested in it. If you don't like it that much just don't watch it.

I'm still watching it this long, I haven't watched this many episodes of any Whedon show. My wife and Stepdaughter are addicted to it. It gets more intricate as it goes along, as I knew it would. I'm glad Whedon finally took a shot at a more adult show.

RAMA

Why couldn't the show have been good to begin with? Why should any audience be expected to wait for something to maybe start getting good?
Why couldn't TNG be good for the first 3 seasons?

By that logic, every new show should automatically be renewed for three seasons in the outside chance that maybe the show will become brilliant. I'm telling you, Cavemen could have been the greatest sitcom ever.
