"Dollhouse" probably cancelled - THX FOX

I, too, was not completely satisifed with Dollhouse. But I continued to watch. That was a personal decision, based completely on my respect for Joss Whedon's work with Firefly and Dr. Horrible (I've never tried Buffy or Angel). Whedon had earned that extra leeway for me.
I can fully understand why others have stopped watching. And I agree with those who have questioned the 'slow buildup' approach. This is risky on network TV, and doomed the show to almost certain failure.
But for those who have been patient enough to stick around, the last two episodes (8 and 9) have been excellent. The writing has been the best of the series, and, importantly, Echo (Eliza Dushku) finally has developed a more permanent personality, which is allowing her to be identifiable and sympathetic to viewers.

Interesting premise, because I've actually been wondering if he'd get out of TV altogether should Dollhouse be canceled. Web-based programming seems to be growing at an excited rate, so it wouldn't surprise me of the profitability made it an attractive option to people like Whedon.
Yeah, I think Whedon is someone who could really thrive by switching to web-based programming.
Now, having read that, I don't know wether I should want DH to continue or get cancelled as soon as possible.
On the one hand, I've been enjoying the show more and more ever since episode six and would therefore love to see it get renewed.

You all do remember that all these adventures happen in a single solar system and that at most the furtherest "worlds/moons" just take a few hours to get to because the ships are just that fast and on a side bar it would seem as relatively cheap to fill up as your own car on unleaded that the whore could fill up the tank after only an hour or two on her back?
Now if rich people can get to these "colony" worlds in their personal yachts, the metaphor follows that the so called colony ships we're talking about here are probably about as strategic and tactically complicated as taking a ferry boat to one town over.
But I want to argue about terraforming and horses again!!!

Needed some major re-thinking. Let's say the dolls are all criminally insane lunatics and the brainwashing is their only hope for sanity and being functional citizens. The government won't fund that pricey program, so it falls to private enterprise, which expects the beneficiaries of the treatment to pay for their treatments via assignments.
Then it all kinda makes sense - except for the part where the dolls have to be superhuman in order for customers to want to pay for their services vs just getting a normally adept person in the same field, be it hostage negotiation or prostitution/play acting. But the dolls could have a rational motive to enter into the program, and the Dollhouse doesn't have to be bwahaha about it. Just a business offering a service and requiring financial viability.

I think the biggest issue I have with the concept is the circumstances for which one would hire a Doll; in many of the cases we've seen, it does seem that it would be easier and far less expensive to simply hire a full-time professional at whatever task one needs, rather than a programmed-and-eraseable 'simulation.' That's what makes me wonder what Rossum's real plan is, and whether the Dollhouses are really just a front - a money-making convenience, perhaps, but ultimately, nothing more than a cover that's intentionally - and needlessly - complex in order to throw off the scent for the curious.

I thought the show wasn't that good? and it's ratings weren't that good?
Why aren't Joss fans singing from the hills about how Dollhouse is so awesome the way they do with Firefly?

Firefly really didn't develop it's fanatical base until after the show was canned. Buffy didn't develop it's fanbase until season 2 and 3.
Was it a good show? Not really. Could it have been? Probably. But not until later. Most people weren't willing to sit through the mediocrity in hopes of a pay off. And most Whedonnazi's weren't thrilled by the premise either.
