Charlie Brooker's News Wipe

Hilarious show. I love brutal deconstructionist satire.

Also only found about about Argumental. It was a good week last week IMO for finding amusement during the Mock the Week, HIGNFY, QI drought season.

^ Arguemental isn't bad, but I don't think it lives up to the other shows you mention. It does seem to have gotten to it's second series rather quickly though.

It has some novelty value to it, but I agree it's not as good as the others. In any case I'll take what I can get during the in-between times. Still don't know why Horne and Corden is so maligned when drek like No Signal is on.

Don't think I've seen No Signal, so I cant really comment.

Horne and Corden must of the ads for that show make it look like the same joke again & again, that joke being homoeroticism, I dont know if that is true of the show or not, but that its all the features in the ads

From the episode and a half I saw then yes, there is a lot of homoerotic jokes between the two of them in it.
I don't have a problem with that at all, but a lot of it lacked any real humour to it. Which seems to be the problem with a lot of comedy shows lately.

I tried to watch the H&C show but i really did find it a push to find something to grin at never mind laugh at........I am obvisouly missing something about their comedy, either that or they are just plain not funny.

I have no idea which.

Episode 2 was on tonight (well it's 00:38 as I type this, so technically last night)
Just watched it on iPlayer, another fantastic effort from Brooker

This actually makes me quite sad as it really shows how stupid the general public are

The part about sending in pics of the snow was superb. Loved Paxman's reaction to it on Newsnight :techman:

That was one of my favorite parts. I found the segment on Jade Goody in which Brooker uses Schrodinger's Cat to explain the cognitive dissonance in both the news coverage and the reaction of the General public to be one of the most thought provoking pieces done by Brooker. The idea that Goody was more the star of the News rather than reality TV was well expressed in my opinion.
(I'll have to rewatch this in order to properly express just why this episode was one of the greatest things on the telly. I know that's not saying much but still...)

I have to agree with a lot of what he said.
Its makes me laugh when i see shows asking views to send pictures in.
Last time i watch GMTV i think it would cost the viewer £1.50 and people was sending them loads of pictures.
So GMTV saved money on reporters and made money off the pictures.

just a comment on the cat in a box thing.

ive been thinking about this and have come to this conculsion

years ago I moved from Corby to near Peterborough, and I left alot of people behind, who ive never seen again, so in effect they were put in a box (for me) meanwhile Corby is a dumped and a high crime area, meaning they could be killed for some reason (that or just the dangers of life) those people are probaly still alive, but according to the theory they are both alive & dead.

even if a person can not see in the box (or the people at Corby) does not change if they are actually dead or not, they are not both dead & alive, only when they actually die are they dead, until then they are living. My not knowning of there death changes nothing.

like the tree that falls when no one is around, the sound waves are made, but are like an LP without a record player its sound will go unheard.

But that whole thing is about the quantum state of a radioactive atom not the actual life or death of the cat.

^^^Oh dear........Warmdue and Bob disagree.........But who's right..........there only one way to find out............FIGHT!!!!.

OH god, i have picked up Stewart Lee repetitive approach to comedy..........But which is better.........there only one way to find out.........FIGHT!!!!

Ohhhh GOD help me!!!!.

{Opens box and squeezes in next to the cat}.

 I do seem to disagree with wamdue a bit, so you can be forgiven.

I had not noticed that.
I don't think we do that much really, but we seem to have a couple of times over the last few days, so I was playing along.
But that whole thing is about the quantum state of a radioactive atom not the actual life or death of the cat.
so why use the example of a cat in a box? it over simplifies things to the point where the idea they are trying to explain is lost.

(god im in a picky mood today)
I believe Schrödinger's Cat was originally designed to show how ludicrous the Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum Mechanics is. But it does show how quantum indeterminacy works. By measuring/observing things you can change the outcome, so the idea of a cat being in a box with a poision activated by the decay of a radioactive atom shows that until observed the decay has both happened and not happened, which means the cat is both alive and dead and until you observe it one outcome isn't set. It's not so much to do with the cat as it is to do with the way things behave at the quantum level.

im not seeing it, (god im blonde tonight) just because a human hasn't witnessed something happening, it does not mean that it has not happened. It is us humans who do not know if the cat is alive or dead, not the cat itself.

we wouldnt know if the cat is alive or dead, but its only in our minds we dont know that, in the real world the cat is dead or alive, those are the only two options (unless its a Zombie cat of course)

besides even without seeing the cat, we can take a guess as to when exactly it will die, be it of radioactive poison or just lack of oxygen in the box.

anyways im off now, I cleary need some sleep as evidenced by tonight's posts
