Morgan Freeman: "Through the Worm Hole"

Morgan Freeman is teaming with the Science Channel to make a series on space exploration.

The series, titled "Through the Worm Hole," is expected on the cable network in about a year. Freeman is a space enthusiast, and he wants to look into topics like future expeditions to Mars or the possibility of life beyond Earth.

It is expected on the air early next year.
Sounds great! I don't get the Science Channel on basic cable but there are always DVDs.

I really hope this doesn't delay his work on Rendezvous with Rama...

I'm guessing that one of the reasons he took this gig in the first place wasn't just because he likes the idea of space exploration, but maybe to further promote the whole "Rama" concept. It isn't uncommon for a series of documentaries to utilize a common fictional element to tie the overall narrative together. "Cosmos" utilized Sagan's "spaceship of the imagination"; Discovery's "Running with Dinosaurs" used a Steve Irwin-esque time-traveling Aussie naturalist; etc. This series about space exploration may well utilize a Rama-like craft, or encounter one.

And it wouldn't be the first time Discovery Networks (Of which Science Channel is a part) has done crossovers with big Hollywood films. I remember a series about Spy-Craft that liberally utilized footage from a soon to be released Bond film. In fact, they spent about as much time talking about the film as they did on real spy craft. Likewise, I remember a lot of Discovery Network "Documentaries" about various secret societies and their "secret codes" that were barely disguised hour-long commercials for "The DaVinci Code" and "American Treasure".
