Bendii Syndrome?

Kokomo

Commander
Red Shirt
One part of this movie is Spock learning to control his emotions. Does anyone think that the elder Spock will suffer from Bendii Syndrome just as his father did? Could it be that elder Spock's mission may be his last? I have no reason to believe that he will have Bendii Syndrome, but we all know that his father had it and I wonder if he will contract it, too. The only reason I ask is because in this film, it is safe to assume that Spock is well over 200 years old, and while a rare disease, Bendii Syndrome affects those elderly Vulcans that are over the 200 year mark. Since his father had it, could it be that he will, too?

How else would explain Spock not figuring out the proper solution to the whole mess, i.e., stop Nero from destroying the Kelvin in the first place?

I think if Spock had Bedii Syndrome it would already have been mentioned in the Coutdown comics. After all, there's no shortage of continuity referances there.

I doubt old Spock's gonna be sick. I think this film is more a dignified swan song for Nimoy, and Bendii syndrome would add another storyline that would require a lot of explanation.

As for Spock not stopping Nero's attack on the Kelvin, I don't really have any objections. These time travel stories are all a little absurd at some level, and maybe I'm not smart enough, but I don't really see the absurdity with that particular turn of events. Maybe Spock didn't know where Nero ended up to begin with. Maybe his ship wasn't powerful enough. Who knows?

I would hope TPTB do not use Bendaii Syndrome for Spock. Because I have had two grandparents with Alzheimer's Disease, the TNG episodes were a difficult experience for me.
Besides, Spock can never really die... I hope.

^I belive it's there Alzhimer's disease, It's mainly genetic.

So does that mean Spock will get it? I hope not :(

No, at least when making a direct correlation with Alzheimer's. Having a genetic predisposition does not mean that all members of a family will develop a condition. It is believed that tendencies toward Alzheimer's may be influenced by environmental factors, but as yet more research needs to be done to understand exactly how the disease works.

I hope Spock doesn't develop Bendaii syndrome. I appreciate the TNG episode about it since my grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's and I have also worked with dementia patients. But the subject has been done and I don't see a need to have another much-loved character go through this. :(

It's not our Spock. Our Spock has been through this sort of thing before and knows the first thing you do is determine where the change took place, then go back and prevent that change from happening.

The simple fact that this Spock isn't doing that shows that he's not our Spock.

Bullshit. Utter bullshit. You don't have nearly enough information to make such a determination. There is just as much chance (based on what information IS available) that the time travel of both Nero and Spock is involuntary. THAT is sufficient to render your "considered opinion" entirely moot. Proffering opinion is one thing. Expressing opinions as facts is asinine behaviour.

When I heard Star Trek X was being called "Nemesis" and was going to feature Romulus, my first thought was, "It's Spock. The bad guy is Spock. He's sick and is being manipulated by the Romulans so they can pit him against Picard and Starfleet. What an awesome foe he'd make."

And then we got shit sandwiches.

But yeah, makes sense Spock would be suffering from the same ailment that killed his father. It could affect him differently considering he's half Vulcan.

I'm astonished beyond measure why people still read the good Captain's posts, far less try to argue with him.

I can understand reading them, they provide entertainment.
The attempt to argue though has always left me shaking my head too.

Yes but there's fun to be had in arguing with someone who is so dogmatic.

Whenever I read his posts, I imagine Captain Robert April to be an old, grizzled, periodically incontinent and quite senile man, similar to The Simpsons' Grampa. Just like him, he brings up countless long-winded, often incomprehensible and increasingly tedious lines of reasoning in regard to his pet peeves, many of which are often nothing more than far-fetched rants. Actually, he should be persuaded to end each and every one of his posts insisting that he is not a crackpot, otherwise we could be led to believe otherwise...

I'd really prefer that this not become Yet Another Thread About Captain Robert April, please. Don't help him to drag the thread off-topic.

Now...

Bendii Syndrome: Yes, No, Maybe?

Discuss.

Bendii Syndrome: No.
Don't overcomplicate a probably non-linear story not even more. Also, although I haven't read all Star Trek: Countdown issues, as far as I can tell, he doesn't look or act like sick man there.
