A possibility about the new Enterprise?

Someone else has probably already considered this, but I haven't seen any posts about it, so I thought I would throw it out there. Since we have already seen ships in the films that more closely resemble the Kelvin (only with two nacelles as opposed to one), is it possible that the "new" Enterprise is a refit, and there is an older Enterprise that we haven't seen, possibly one that would look and feel like the TOS Enterprise? It's possible that in the "new" timeline, the Enterprise has had an early refit to bring it up to a technology level that wasn't available in the "old" timeline. This would also provide a bridge between the two designs of the Enterprise and give the fans a look on-screen at the old version (providing there are flashbacks of some kind). The only problem I see with it is that the registry number would be the same, or perhaps the "old" Enterprise had a different number or it wasn't deemed necessary to change it.

Lost in Space did something like this, having a shell around the new ship that made look like the ship from the TV series.

Again, it's just a thought, but I think it's one that needs to be considered.

I don't think they give a big fat rat's ass about anything that's in this movie remotely feeling like TOS...and really rightfully so, they shouldn't even TRY to come close to the original masterpiece. Of course I could be wrong and would love to be proven wrong upon the film's release...we'll see about that.

Why would that be a problem? The Enterprise from The Motion Picture didn't have a different registry after the refit.

I think we might retcon reasons why this ship looks different, and indeed in some ways more advanced to me than the TOS ship (particularly since the saucer rim so strongly and perhpas purposefully resembles the TMP refit version) due to the plot, but I doubt we'll get much exposition to that regard in the film.

They just wanted to update it. Using time travel allows fans who choose to retcon a logical out.

Personally, I like to think what we see is tech developed to a 2270s level, built with 2250s techniques. But I don't think they'll actually say that.

I disagree I love the ''refit'' But you and I do agree on one thing, and that is we the ''fans'' don't need to be told ''why'', we already know it's a NU-timeline, and the ''public'' at large, really cant tell the diff, between the Old ''&'' NU! to begin with, so I don't think we will get an explenation.(I hope)

I suppose it's possible if the ship that Kirk sees being built on the ground isn't the Enterprise (since that seems more like a building from scratch than a refit). Both of those seem unlikely to me, though, so I'm thinking that he's probably looking at Ent being built as a new vessel.

That the nuEnterprise is a refit of the TOS Enterprise would be similarly absurd, one might as well claim that this is a refit of this. I agree with Rii, it would be silly if the TOS ship and the XI ship existed in the same universe. However, it may be that the TMP refit and the XI merge together quite well. I like that.

Personally, after These are the voyages..., I am really turned off by the idea that there will be some reference to TOS. I don't want to see some pandering, mushy-mushy crap thrown into the movie. I want it to stand on it's own.

Its a brand new ship, its just built a decade a half later than it was supposed to be. In that regard it makes a lot of sense that it looks closer to the TMP refit.
