Attention Professional Writers of the TrekBBS

Marvel Studios is hiring writers.

I just saw this and remember seeing one of the forum's members, a professional writer, lamenting over being totally broke and out of work. So I thought I'd post this so that those who think they can do the job can jump on it ASAP. Good luck people.

What about DC's & Dark Horse's Studios?

They hiring too?

Maybe some of TrekBBS's pro-writers would be interested in working for 1 of their studios instead of Marvel's?

I cannot say about Dark Horse, but DC is owned by Time Warner which also owns the Warner Bros. studios and likely have their own stable of writers already.

Marvel Studios is still a relatively new company that is looking to approach their properties in a wholly different way than the typical Hollywood writer that wants to revamp everything from the source material. I took the public article as a plea to find writers that are outside the Hollywood mainstream.

But there is nothing to stop the writers here from sending pitches to DC or DH, aside from maybe being receptive to outside pitches like Marvel is asking for here.

Its probably a good thing Marvel Studios is outreaching for new writing talents.

They're no doubt tired of their stale bread.

Better to outreach than outsource.

Yeah, but did you read this part?

One source tells me the terms of the program "are apparently more onerous than the terms of the Disney Writers Program. Before the writers are even allowed to come in and meet, they must sign a non-disclosure agreement and a 70-page, non-negotiable contract. Among other things, the contract gives Marvel ownership over everything the writers create during the one year term of [the] deal, plus a first look and last refusal to any and all projects the writers have previously written or will write for 24 months in the future."

Sounds like they're trying to avoid a Seigel/Schuster fiasco by basically requiring you to all but sign your soul over. Either way, check out the comments section.

And I don't see anywhere on how to apply.

Gotta go through an agency. According to one of the agents that posted a comment, they've already made offers to most everybody in town who'd be interested.

Between what I know about Hollywood, and what's been posted here, this is the writing equivilant of being a grocery store bag boy. It's a "stay out from under the bridge" sweatshop level job.
