I don't like them either (well English and American movies - that's the only foreign language I understand)...
In 'The Core' where Greenwood plays a similar role as he does in Star Trek, there is the scene where the Virgil dives into the sea... Dr. Zimsky explains that 'this spot is perfect, because the Earth's crust is thinnest here. But the downside...' the ships is shaken by a seaquake at that moment '... is seaquakes.'
In the German version he says 'Untergrund' (for 'downside') instead of 'Nachteil'. This is such a blatant error, a complete mistranslation... but since there is not a single word of Klingon in the German version of TSFS...
One of my favorite errors in translation can be found in an episode title for TOS, actually:
The German version of "The Galileo 7" is, in fact, called "Notlandung auf Galileo 7" which translates to 'Emergency landing ON Galileo 7'. It makes no sense at all. I love it.
An interesting difference can be found in Indy 3 when the SS guy slaps Indy after he was kissed by Elsa. In the English version of the film, the SS guy says, "That's how we say goodbye in Germany". In the German version, he says, "So sagen wir bei der SS auf Wiedersehen" or 'That's how we say goodbye in the SS'.
This is obviously not an error but rather a choice in light of the target audience. And it's certainly an interesting distinction.

That reminds me that TOS The Galileo Seven/Notlandung auf Galileo 7 was the first time I've seen anything Star Trek when it was shown for the first time on German television back in the early 1970s...
To be honest, nobody noticed the translation mistake at the time or even that the episode was slightly shortened. Nobody was fastidious enough to care about stuff like that. Also, there was no reference material whatsoever at hand to double-check what you just had seen on the telly. It made sense the way it was and your only concern was that you and your cousin had to holster your phasers (well, repainted water pistols) and face down some oversized neanderthals the next morning... but, of course we were children back then.

However, there is even a name for what men like us suffer (?) from - it is actually (although inofficially) called the 'Peter Pan Syndrome' and used to describe 'an adult who is socially immature'. Good (or bad?) for everybody concerned, it is not recognized by the American Psychiatric Association as a mental disorder.
I think ST-One may have been suggesting that it is possible to overgeneralize.

Young just-got-his-ass-kicked Kirk's use of the word "man" (and its appropriateness in that context) has also gotten a lot of mileage here already, with some few people on both sides of the argument remaining unconvinced by other points of view. Most of us, however, seem to have decided that we're willing to wait to see how it plays in the movie as a whole.

Well I'm not such a big fan of the ST movies either...I don't think they were that great w/ the exception of wrath of course. Let's face it...Hollywood sucks and they come up with little that is fresh...they really don't make em like they used to and I know because I'm a big fan of the older movies where there is actual dialogue in the film and they didn't just rely on effects and recycling the same old shit.
