Good review and I'm really looking forward to reading this now (I'm one of those who have ignored the Voyager post series books so far, but this new direction sounds interesting).
I don't think so. Didn't Kirsten say that most of those eight characters will remain as series regulars?
Well based on what I heard a couple days ago: Spoiler: Characters fates Tom, B'Elanna, The Doctor, Harry, Seven, Vorik, and (I think) Chakotay, are all taking part in Voyager's new mission. Spoiler: Voyager's new Mission This new mission will be leading a slipstream equipped 9(?) ship fleet back to the DQ. The mission will be lead by a new admiral character, and Voyager will also have a new character as her captain.
Hmmm...if that spoiler's right, particularly about who's leading the new mission, then the Janeway fans may actually have a right to be angry. Spoiler: Voyager's new mission After all, isn't the reason Janeway was written off was because there supposedly wasn't a place for an admiral on the Voyager series?
This is true. Come April, it seems as though a reconning is on the way. Hopefully Lynx and JustKate don't get their hands on Margaret...but we are being premature...let's just read the book first
Well, in Kirsten we trust...I'll just read the book and go from there. Thanks for pointing out that post, as I must have missed it originally
I got my copy of Full Circle a couple days ago, and have read the first 250 pages. Obviously it's too soon for me to offer a full opinion on the book, but I will say that this first section very capably captures the "feel" of a Voyager story (in good ways and bad, to my mind, but more of that later), and that anyone who still doubts the author's assertion that the series' regulars are at the center of the story shouldn't. All the heavy dramatic material and the core narrative feature the characters you saw in the opening credits all these years. Even if the balance changes somewhat in the rest of the book (I have no idea whether it will), there's a real Voyager story in the first half.
Good news so far...I need this fucking book. It won't come out up here until March 31st...That's Canada for you
i don't know how brendan moody hot his hands on a copy already, but the release date is the same in the US as it is for canada.
Star Trek books don't have hard 'street dates'; the dates in the bookstore systems are signposts more than anything else. Trek books usually start hitting shelves within the weeks prior to the month of release. (Paris, where in Canada are you? I'm in Montréal, and can testify to the fact that even the big stores have been shite for timely arrival of Trek books lately.) Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
And it'll probably hit bookshops around mid April and if you really want it, order it off sites like the Book Depositary.
I've finished the book. I started to write a review, but it was so long and rambling that I gave up. All I'll say now is that this is a book that covers a lot of ground, to the point where it's possible to feel (as I do) that Full Circle is a little disjointed and that some aspects don't work at all, but to have enjoyed other aspects enough not to regret reading it. I don't ever feel comfortable recommending books to strangers, but there's probably something here to interest most Voyager fans.
I'm just a little ways away in Ottawa. The book shops here have been basically on time with the Trek releases according to the street dates that i've seen. I was just surprised that it was out in some areas this early....
No. One more time....post Full Circle...the ratio of series regulars to new characters remains weighted heavily toward series regulars. It's not even 50/50. Brendan, Glad to hear you don't regret spending the time on it. I know it's a lot to get through. Sorry to hear that you found some of it disjointed, but totally understandable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best, Kirsten
Obviously I haven't read the book yet, but I was wondering if Seven is written differently in Full Circle due to what happened to the Borg in Destiny(...call me Annika)? Since some of FC takes place before Destiny, I assume she'll be the same old Seven for that part, but the post-Destiny parts are what i'm wondering about.
