Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Honestly, don't bother writing letters. Sci-Fi (SY-FY) has been on this trajectory for some time (my first sniff of it came during the Farscape years).

They've been trying to "diversify their profile" ever since Farscape got the axe which is just another way of saying "taking the brand name in a different direction". I don't think it's a stretch to say that in 5-10 years the sci-fi label will be gone altogether and the network will bare only a passing resemblence to a science fiction/fantasy specialized channel.

THis has been slowly happening for years now and this name change is only another part of that slow move away from being a strictly "genre" channel. I'm not saying it's right, only that it shouldn't come as a shock to anybody following their moves for the past 6-7 years.

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Stop blaming ECW!!!! :brickwall:

How many more times do I have to explain that NBC had a contractual obligation to fulfill and Sci-Fi had no say in the matter !?!?!

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Relax guys, SyFy will still be the home of syence fyction on televysion.

It'll still suck though.

And they own Bravo, and USA, and a lot of other networks. Are you seriously trying to tell us they could not find a single other place to run wrasslin, other than the science fiction network?

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

I honestly don't give a crap about the name. Had they renamed it "SyFy" last year I would still have watched Battlestar Galactica without a second thought.

The real issue is that once BSG goes there is nothing else even remotely worth watching, but unless we're getting SPECIFIC a letter campaign is just pointless. I mean, maybe if we wanted them to pick up a specific show or some specific call to action i fail to see the point.

Your use of the term "wrasslin" indicates your prejudice.

Bravo, unlike the UK channel with the same name which airs TNA Impact, is not really the place for wrestling. It's clearly not a male targeting channel.

USA already shows a good number of hours of WWE programming, including their flagship programme Monday Night Raw.

Science Fiction and Wrestling have a common core audience - young men and it is not like Sci-Fi were doing anything better with the timeslot.

And what, praytell, does "wrestling" have to do with science fiction? In what way does it have anything to do with the term "SciFi"?

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

If they want to call themselves "Sy Fy" they're welcome to. Just as I'm welcome not to watch.

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Its not just the name though, it is their programming, and their crappy SCIFI original movies. Honestly, they don't WANT to be SCIFI anymore, they don't want to show SCIFI stuff. They should have just changed the name to something else and done away with the "SCIFI" aspect completely, just make a clean break away from the genre. As it stands we are just going to get a mix of everything on the channel I guess. I am hurting for a REAL SCIFI channel. The current SCIFI channel hasn't been a SCIFI channel in ages.

Agreed. Time to destroy SciFi.

The question is: nukes, photon torpedoes, drop a space colony on them, probability bombs, or atmospheric deprivation devices?

They have a common audience - young men - which is more than I can say for Crossing Jordan.

No, it'll be bugs (MANsquito, anyone?), or those livid shark, snakes, giant alligators and crockadiles. ;)

Still hasn't answered wtf does it have to do with science fiction. OH, BTW, I am a wrasslin' fan from years ago (before those 29" pythons started to sag..).

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

^It has nothing to do with Science Fiction as I have been saying since my very first post on this subject which came roughly five minutes after Sci-Fi and WWE announced that ECW would air there.

It has everything however, to do with NBC owing WWE an hour a week.

Yes. You live by the bug/giant mutant snake/alligator/Yeti/Chupacabra/Mansquito, you die by the bug/giant mutant snake/alligator/Yeti/Chupacabra/Mansquito...

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Letter writing campaign = more than useless.

The better thing now is to figure out where our new science fiction channel is, or, if there isn't one, do we need to make one?

I mean, think about it - we've got associations with people who are producing tv quality science fiction, and while a lot of it is Trek fan stuff that Paramount would probably never allow, they're all set to produce non-Trek stuff. Especially if it were profitable. We've got writers here, some professional, some good enough to be.

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Why bother, Sci-fi channel ''SUCKSSS'' It dosent deserve to be called ''SCI-FI'' anymore!

Re: E-Mail & Letter campaign "SyFy"

Letter writing campaign for the name but not for the shit content they've had for years? Who gives a shit about what the channel is called. Your rally cry should have happened when they put Katee Sackhoff in that awful post apocalyptic original movie. Fanboys...always complaining about the garnish when the meal is undercooked.

I personally don't care what the channel is. I'll watch a show on Lifetime or LOGO if it's good enough.
