How we deal with death

Right now I'm listening to a song which perfectly sums up my feelings over the current development of Star Trek:

"I'd sail across the ocean
I'd walk a hundred miles
If I could make it to the end
Oh just to see a smile

You see it in their faces
The sadness in their tears
The desperation and the anger
Madness and the fear

No hope, no life, just pain and fear
No food, no love, just greed is here"

"Childhood's End"
Iron Maiden

Quite appropriate. :(

How is that the current development of Trek? The message of Destiny et al was that no matter how dire the circumstances good and hope will prevail...of course to each his own but...

Nope. You're not reading enough.

That's more appropriate to nuBSG than Trek. :p

Greed, huh? You really think that's what's motivating the editors and writers involved?

I dunno... I've yet to find a situation in which listening to Iron Maiden is appropriate. But that's just me. Chances are you never listen to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. De gustibus non est horses for courses and all that.

:guffaw:

This is one of those cases where I can stop reading this thread because nothing is going to top that.

I personally have The Eagles playing in my head...

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit?
Get over it, get over it

That is a good song by the way.

To the tune of Elvis isn't dead by Scouting for Girls:

"Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
cause I heard her on the radio

Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
and you're coming back to me I know

Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
yes I heard her on the radio

Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead
Janeway isn't dead"

And a crap song is made even worse!

Can the next time the J word is mentioned by anyone other than in the Full Circle REVIEW thread, can a mod, oh I don't know, hand out some punishments?

To the tune of Elvis isn't dead by Scouting for Girls:

Or, better yet, to the tune of "Elvis is Everywhere" by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper (lots of lyrics, this is just part of the song):

Janeway is everywhere,
Janeway is everything,
Janeway is everybody,
Janeway is still the King.
Man oh man
What I want you to see
Is that the big J's
Inside of you and me

Man, there's a lot of unexplained phenomena out there in the world.
Lot of things people say What the heck's going on?
Let me tell you!

Who built the pyramids?
JANEWAY!
Who built Stonehenge?
JANEWAY!

You know whats going on in that Bermuda Triangle?
Down in the Bermuda Triangle?
Janeway needs boats.
Janeway needs boats.
Janeway Janeway Janeway
Janeway Janeway Janeway
Janeway needs boats.

Aahh! The Sailing Janeway!
Captain Janeway!
Commodore Janeway it is!

Yeah man, you know people from outer space, people from outer space they come up to me.
They don't look like like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons, all that Star Trek jive.
They look like Janeway.
JANEWAY!
Everybody in outer space looks like Janeway.

Janeway is in everybody out there.
Everybody's got Janeway in them!
Everybody except one person that is...
Yeah, one person!
The evil opposite of Janeway.
The Anti-Janeway.

Anti-Janeway got no Janeway in 'em, lemme tell ya.

Peter A. David has no Janeway in him.

(Well, it seemed appropriate for the context....)

The Day Kate Janeway Died
(Based on "American Pie" by Don McLean)

A long, long time ago...
We can still remember
How that series used to make us smile.
And we knew that if we had our way
That they would make it home one day
And, maybe, we'd be happy for a while.

But the relaunch books, they made us shiver
With every entry they'd deliver.
Then befell a trag'dy
In a damned book 'bout T-N-G.

We can't remember if we cried
When we read about this blood-dimmed tide,
We yelled for Peter David's hide
The day Kate Janeway died.

Why, why, did poor Kate Janeway die?
Flew her starship to the Borg ship
And her luck just ran dry
Unless our captain is revivified
We vow, no more Pocket books will we buy!
No more Pocket books will we buy!

:)

(Full disclosure: I had the initial idea and wrote a draft; Leisner helped me refine it.)
