Favourite Biscuits?

Biscuits? I don't know nuthin' 'bout no biscuits... but I do love cookies.

What's my favourite? Oh jeez... that's like Sophie's Choice... I can't choose. Oreos, Fudgeeos, any kind of chocolate chip (especially triple chocolate )... it's all good.

Yeah, I love chocolate. Cutting back on it seriously for the past few months has been killing me (well, actually, it's probably been making me healthier, but you know what I mean).

When it comes to English biscuits, I tend to go for chocolate tea biscuits. Not too sweet, but still flavorful. I say that now, however, last night I scarfed half a box of Jaffa Cakes.

Since the British (and commonwealth nations) apparently call crisp cookies "biscuits", what word do they use for those tasty things American southerners cover with sausage gravy (or eat as their bread with fried chicken)?

Also: Do Canadians drop the "Canadian" from Canadian Bacon, and what word do they use for what most Americans call bacon?

And yes, I know that there are as many different peoples in Canada (or the UK for that manner) as there are in the US and different groups probably have different words for things.

Lorna Doones (the cookie/biscuit, not the romance novel) are mana from heaven and I can eat a box of them as if I was breathing them.

I am also partial to Anna's Almond-Cinnamon and Lemon thins. Such crispy, delicate, Swedish goodness. When I'm in the mood for something wafered, I try to go for Vienna's, but they are becoming increasingly scarce, so I sometimes settle for Golden Oreos (a somewhat inferior substitute, but good enough).

Though no ginger snap brand can touch the many homemade ones I've had over the years, for store-bought nothing touches Stauffers. I like their Snicker Doodles also.

But, yeah, I'm a Lorna Doone'aholic.

Scones?

hitting a regional dialect barrier . . . when I think of biscuits I think of these

Silly. You eat those with honey or jelly. :D

The Brits are just upset with proper Southern biscuits because we don't need our biscuits to sweeten our tea. We perfected tea technology so that it has sweetness in it already. (All too frequently to the extent that it is practically a syrup. No damned wonder we have such problems with diabetes.)

It is physically impossible and I think against 'English Jaffa Cake eating Law' to eat less than 3 jaffa cakes in one go. And another 3, 5 mins later... repeat until feel guilt or nausea

Yeah, they seem like a sconey, dumplingy type of thing. Sounds nice, though.

I don't buy them much, these days. For when I do, I snaffle the whole lot sharpish like the greedy swine I am.

:D

Also: Is there anything that people in other parts of the world call "American Such and Such" when we would just call it "Such and Such"? Like American Ham, for what we just call country ham, er sumtin?

American biscuits are kind of like scones, but not quite. They're not sweet at all, and tend to be softer, flakier, and lighter than scones. I like these biscuits best with just butter, or even a bit of jam.

As for cookies, I like anything homemade, so long as it's warm and soft. Chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and snickerdoodles are my favorites.

They're Teal'c's favorites.

What are called scones in Commonwealth countries so not have to be sweet. Scones can be either sweet or savoury.

There isn't a British name for those - we don't eat them.
