Favourite Biscuits?

Zulu Romeo

The inspiration for this topic came to me when my boss and I were sitting down for a chat this afternoon. Not so much the chat, as the stockpile of Rich Tea biscuits in the tin nearby, of course.

I then thought to myself: I like biscuits as much as the next person, but there are so many out there, from good old Digestives, Walkers Shortbread and Malted Milks, to the more sophisticated Oreos and Bourbon biscuits, to the famous Jammie Dodgers and other products that are either cakes or biscuits depending on who you ask (see Jaffa Cake and Tunnock's Teacake).

But which is the most popular type of edible biscuit here in the TrekBBS? Which deserves to be crowned King of Biscuits?

Me, I still have a weakness for the Rich Tea - a subtle warrior of a biscuit, appears bland and unassuming, but highly addictive. Similar with the lovely buttery taste of Walkers Shortbread - in fact my first dog LOVED shortbread. However, my first and only true love is still the chocolate HobNob. :bolian:

I will require samples of each.

Send samples to:
Smalltime Machine Services
Ridge Road Ontario, NY 14519
ATTN: BISCUIT TESTING DIVISION

Be sure to pack them well, you can't get proper flavor from a broken biscuit.

I've just had some biscuits :)

I remember some years ago reading a 'what your biscuit says about you' study.

I can't remember the findings from that now, but it was something like: Jaffa cake = fun loving and care free. Rich tea = rational and intellectual. Digestive = uncomplicated and reliable.

I enjoy many biscuits, but due to my avoidance of animal products in foods, I don't eat anything chocolate coated or milk containing, so there aren't actually many suitable for me.

Favourites are:

  • Morning coffee (7/10)
  • rich tea (8/10)
  • digestive (a nice treat, but they quite rich) (5/10)
  • bourbon (6/10)
  • nice (they're really terrible for tea dipping) (6/10)
  • coconut rings (fun) (7/10)
  • coconut creams (similar to custard creams but much better) (8/10)
  • Jammie dodgers (as long as the jam isn't like a lump of rubber) (8/10)
  • Pink wafers (different. Just have one) (6/10)
  • hobnobs (sickly, but nice too have one amongst other biscuits) (5/10)
  • fruit shortcake (lovely, but again only have one amongst other biscuits) (9/10)
  • lemon puffs (light biscuit sandwich with lemon filling, as above.) (9/10)

McVitie's Ginger Nuts!

Also, Chocolate Digestives, Bourbon Cremes, shortbread fingers, Rich Tea and Nice biscuits. Yummy!

Choco nutty choc chip choccy biccy chip choco nutty chippy biccy choc.

That sort of thing.

Like many Australians my favourite biscuits are Tim Tams. I prtefer Tim Tam Originals but also love Tim Tam Double Coat.

I also like my own homemade shortbread. It is just as good as any shortbread bought in a shop, is very easy to make and costs a lot less.

I thought that biscuits were the same thing as cookies, but from reading your descriptions and looking at pictures the word cookies seems too specific, since cookies are really only the round things that can be chocolate chip cookies, lemon cookies, sugar cookies, etc. But some of these things, like Tim Tams, I would describe as...well I don't know really. I would just call them by their brand name.

Plus, rich tea certainly doesn't sound like a cookie flavor. What is it if I may ask?

I saw mention of Oreos - ick! It seems like everyone around me is obsessed with them, but I have never liked them. I will lick out the insides, but don't like the crunchiness of the outside. I like my cookies to be super soft.

I'd always have said the Bourbon Cream. Classic, delicious, dunkable.

Alas, now my loyalties are divided because I've met the McVities Chocolate Caramel Digestive. (How did it take biscuit technology so long to achieve this?)

Nice Cup of Tea And A Sit Down do fantastic biscuit reviews.

ETA: For instance, here's their review (with pictures) of the Rich Tea, just for Spot's Meow.

(IMHO, Rich Tea are the best dunking biscuits in the world.)

Semi-sweet, firm and dry biscuit. Light weight, and brittle. Breaks up when bitten into into but softens quickly in the mouth, so it's only slightly crunchy. Flavour is mild, tasting more of the baked flour than any oil or sugar content.

Miss Chicken is ashamed to admit that she missed ANZAC biscuits out of her original post. This is very unpatriotic of her and she knows that the other Aussies (and Kiwis) on this site should flog her for it.

That's the best website name ever. No contest!
Quoted for truth. :guffaw:

It's the biscuit equivalent of turning base metals into gold. :bolian:

A lot of love for the humble Rich Tea here, I see. :bolian:
