AMT Excelsior and Enterprise-B model kits

Indeed they are. In fact, they are the same kit! the only differences are the lower half of the 2nd hull and the upper half of the saucer hull. And there are additional parts on the E-B kit to finish the big impulse engine boxes on the saucer and to grebble up the front end of the warp engines. Seems like the aft ends of the engines have some extra fins as well. You will have no problem whatsoever doing what you describe.

I still have an Excelsior kit in need of assembly. I want to buy those excellent decals that they make to finish it rather than painting, since I suck at painting.
Out of curiosity (and asked generally to anyone who might know) is there a certain best type of 'sealant' overcoating that is best after applying lots of decals to prevent cracking?
