Last ditch for insurance fails...

If living with your parents is what you must do to have health insurance, then live with your parents-- you need health insurance. Continue to look for a full-time job and check out what programs the State might offer, but don't give up your insurance.

Cobra?

And insurance fraud is a bad idea...tell your mom.
COBRA is a freaking rip-off. How about Blue Cross/Blue Shield?

Eh, Blue Cross/Blue Shield was what I was on but they denied my coverage multiple times.

Technically it wasn't 'lying' but we kind of bent the truth a little...and left somethings out that weren't technically problems or things we forgot about :)

NOT a good idea. I am sure your denials were based on that, if they have your previous claim history which they have access to. I hope they come after you for attempted fraud.

Actually it's kind of funny but they want to know your entire medical history, which we don't have really because of how many different doctors I've been too. We can't remember some of the situations on why we went but only knew it was important.

You should shop around. I've never heard of someone paying $500/monthly for individual health coverage.

It's all about your medical history.
When I started setting up my private insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, it was $42 a month. Then I told them I took 2 oral meds for blood pressure and 2 oral meds for diabetes.

My next response from them stated that my rate would be adjusted slightly to $477 a month, and it would be 80/20. Also, I would have to pay a very large deductible, and my insurance could be canceled at any time without any prior explanation. So it would be like throwing the dice every time I went to pick up my medication, which would still cost me well over $100 a month. They referred me to someone else when I told them I couldn't pay that kind of money per month. A subsidiary of BCBS, and they were the ones that rejected me. When I went back to BCBS directly, they went ahead and rejected me also.

$477 was the cheapest price I could find for private insurance.

Lobby your representatives to have insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions. They do here in Mass. I'm sure it adds a little to the cost but ours doesn't seem any higher than prices I've seen in this thread.

Unfortunately, he lives in Texas. It's a 180 degrees difference here from Mass.

It's not funny at all, and probably why you got denied. You say your mom knows all this stuff about insurance, yet she doesn't know your history? She thinks its ok to commit fraud?>

Insurance companies have databases that contain ALL your information. Strong work.

Why is the health system in this country so fucked? America spent 2.2 trillion dollars on health last year and its basically a joke. My wife and I have decent coverage through her employer but we still have to pay fucking copay this and copay that. Originally being from Britain, I can truly appreciate how amazing the National Health Service really is (no charge a the point of use). For god sake America get over the aversion to "socialised" medicine for fuck sake so that we can all live our daily life without worrying about being made bankrupt just because we got ill or had a fucking accident.

Fuck.

QFT. This country's healthcare system is a total joke and an embarrassment.

Actually it's not. But it soon will be. But then we just had this discussion a couple of weeks ago...

Then what do you call it when some-one it looking to pay nearly $6000 a year for health insurance - that's pretty a pretty big chunk out of most people's incomes.

This country's health *insurance* system is a total joke.

We've got terrific health *care*--but it's rationed on the individual's ability to pay for it.

I call it crazy. Find a job that helps pay some of that.

Yeah I can see that happening - employers would be looking to fork out the for the minimal possible coverage for their employees.

And the way the U.S economy is going it wouldn't suprise me if the only thing being dumped faster than workers is company health plans.

there's a link in TNZ atm about an article by conservative commentator David Frum.

Seems that the current economic situation is starting to change a few Republican minds on health care issues. Seems they are loosing jobs and suddenly finding out just how much health insurance in the U.S costs (assuming they are able to get it).

But then as the saying goes - Karma's a bitch.

Health insurance is a benefit an employer supplies to entice talented help.

except that at moment you'll find that employers are getting rid of talented help not taking it on.

It's a huge burden on business and they will be looking to cut costs anyway they can (and if businesses start dropping health cover left and right, then no one has the incentive and at the moment I think you'll find people are just happy to have a job).

In fact I believe there was a thread in TNZ that U.S automakers were looking tow wind back if not get rid of altogether heatlh benefits for employees and that was well before the shit started to hit the fan economically.

Which is why Tax Cuts are the best, and proven, way to stimulate business and therefore the economy.

So in the short term you are correct. Businesses are cutting back. But if the US ever gets captialist friendly again we'll all see our standard of living raise.

It had 8 years to get "capitalist friendly" and things plummeted.

Dude, I have conditions that even specialists have never ever seen and I had to go to specialists doctors that we've forgotten about because they said simply they can't fix it and that was that. So why keep records on that stuff? Plus in 20 years, the stuff they knew then pales to what they know now. Hell in fact, the condition in my arm could be a thesis paper for a doctor, that's how rare of a condition it is.

No, my mom doesn't know my history. We either thrown some of that stuff out or can't get it. I had a leg problem that they thought would clear up when I got older but oops, they were wrong. The records are gone because we didn't think it was going to be a problem after a few years but then they realized they had it wrong and that my leg was a problem.

It's funny that the right to life is being trumped by the rights of capitalism. If the insurance companies didn't short cut anyone, we wouldn't have a problem.
