NCC-1701 said : Overused? Because she had two roles on TOS more than 20 years ago (at the time of TNG)? :wtf:

Was it only 2 eps it seemed like so much more. ;)

I prefer Dr. Pulaski.

Seemed like a stronger character to me ,and I liked the female Bones thing.

Why did she leave anyway? (or was it her choice)

Muldar was signed for the third season; in fact, scripts were written to include her. She wanted to take a few episodes off in the early part of the season to do a McCloud reunion movie, but TPTB didn't want her to. So she left the series.

A similar situation would pop off at the start of the fourth season with Wil Wheaton, who wanted to do a movie. But Berman, according to Wheaton, didn't let him do it. So Wheaton asked his agent to get him out of his contract.

Beverly.

Warmer, more three-dimensional and interesting. Nice backstory. Better looking.

That's what I meant ;)

Plus, even in her weakest makeup and outfits she was fetching. Nothing against Diana Muldaur personally...but her look just never did anything for me. She came off as a cranky aunt or mother-in-law with a medical degree.
I remember seeing the way Muldaur looked in Season 2. I had the feeling that she was intentionally sabotaged with the "annie" hair and the frumpy uniform. She definately was a stunner back in TOS. I read somewhere that doing the episode where she got very aged burned her out of sci-fi. Also the backstage drama made her want to leave TNG. In regards to Dr. Pulaski, even though Crusher has the better personality and looks, Pulaksi would heve been the better doctor. She wasn't afraid of Picard because she didn't have a personal relationship prior with him. She could remain objective with the crew when objectivity would at times be a matter of life and death.

Crusher was never afraid of Picard professionally. I seem to recall SEVERAL heated debates regarding the Prime Directive between the two of them. She was afraid of getting involved with him, and he of getting involved with her. That doesn't make Picard a worse captain than say, Riker, or I guess Jellico would be a better comparison.

And if we're going for sheer medical talent, Pulaski was never more than a CMO while Crusher was head of Starfleet Medical before she was 40. That says something.

Thus, my vote is Beverly.

I like Crusher. But I felt Pulaski was a much better character, with better stories. I almost felt like Pulaski would have been a great DS9 character; like she was a better fit for that series. She just seems more realistic to me than Crusher. But I do like Beverly.

I really don't like either character, although Pulaski at least had some balls, while I found Beverly a bit passive-aggressive. I would've brought in a third doctor, frankly. It would've been interesting if they had an alien female CMO, maybe even Dr. Selar (played by the smoking hot Suzie Plakson). Would've loved to see an Andorian CMO, also. -- RR

I had always hoped they would bring back Dr. Selar as well; every time they mentioned her in later episodes I would hope that she was going to walk into sickbay. One of the reasons I loved the New Frontier books was the attention given to Dr. Selar. I thought Suzie Plakson was hot as a Q & a half human Klingon, but she was just gorgeous as a vulcan.

Umh...lack of "balls" pretty much rules out ANY of your alternative characters.

I once penned a short fanfic story in which the captain of my Galaxy-class ship knew Pulaski and even recommended her assignment to Captain Taggart on the Repulse because of Katherine's track record and efficiency. Shame we got so little backstory on her, though with barely 20 episodes or even less for her to appear in(little more than Yeoman Rand got on TOS)I guess we should feel fortunate we even know what her previous ship posting was.
