STS-119

Pretty huge.

Pretty dumb.

I jacked up my ankle today before our Colbert shoot. Sucko. :(

Nice shots, Squggy. Hope the ankle heals up quickly!

Yeah, the VAB is gianormous! I had the good fortune of having an uncle in KSC admin during the Apollo era. I got "grass in front of the firing rooms" seating for Apollo 16 and the Skylab I manned mission (officially Skylab 2, but that is't what the patch said. :)

My uncle knew he'd be retired before the shuttle ever flew, so that last trip I got the grand tour! In addition to the oblgatory giftshop stop, my uncle took us out to the Mercury monument, LC 34, "KC" the alligator... he lived in the pond in front of the admin building...and the grand finale for a space bug bitten kid...Inside the VAB and the gallery of one of the firing rooms!

The crawler was heading into the VAB that day. Among the pieces of rocketstuff I got to lay eyes on included a Saturn 1B with a placard denoting "ATSM". Deke Slaytons ride. :)

In 2004, a temp job took me to Orlando. I went and took the paid tour including the Apollo/Saturn center. Their animated firing room simulation (actual Apollo era consoles though) took me back to spring day in 1972 when I watched brave men leave their home planet to set foot elsewhere.

I gotta get down there to see an STS launch!

Dude, it's just has to be cool to work at KSC.

I'll be there as well. Usually I am at the Port Canaveral Air Force Base viewing area but I think for this one I'll stay toward the north end to get some better pictures as the shuttle trajectory takes it along the coast.

Yeah. A couple years back, they refitted the countdown clock to tick with the sound effects from "24". It's great to hear from the press box these days. ;)

I've been looking forward to 119 for a while now - for the lay-person, it's the last "big" addition to ISS that makes the station as bright in the sky as it'll ever be. Unfortunately, the addition of the Colbert Node later on won't make it much brighter. ;)

Re: STS-119 Mission Webcast

SCRUBBED!

Hydrogen valve leak. Tanking has been canceled and launch has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 8:50 PM.

Re: STS-119 Mission Webcast

Oh, it's just the valve? The way I saw it on CNN, they made it sound like a big-ass crack or something in the ET.

Re: STS-119 Mission Webcast

The leak that caused today's launch scrub is in the gaseous hydrogen vent line at the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate, known as the GUCP.

If there was a crack in the tank (interior AND exterior) there would be no shuttle left.

Re: STS-119 Mission Webcast

oh well...to keep us entertained, here is a picture from another night launch I attended...

My computer died on me a couple of days ago and I just got the replacement up and running… If I hadn't subscribed to this thread I would've missed this launch!!!

Thanks for keeping it alive :bolian:
