Specifically Liberty gun safes? Long story short, I've located a safe that I really like and it's a Liberty model 23, Patriot Series. And I can't locate ANY info anywhere on the web about this safe. When I google it, I get hits for a Cannon safe , but this is definitely a Liberty safe. It appears to be the same as what they now refer to as the Colonial series. So perhaps it's just an older model that's been setting on the floor awhile.

So I'm wondering if any of my fellow gun owners know anything about gun safes and this particular model. Or if you have any experience with other safes and any recommendations.

Thanks!

Ask apostle83. He's one of the experts here.

Thanks, I was trying to remember his name and it was escaping me. I figured there's a good chance he would know.

Liberty seems to be the safe of choice. I have heard nothing but good about them. Good about their products, good about their customer service. I would steer away from Canon safes. Their customer service is absolutely horrendous. So go with Liberty if you can.

As for safes in general a couple of things to keep in mind:
1) If you think you need a 10 gun safe, get the 15. You'll need it eventually
2) Besides physical security, you need to think about fire protection. Get the safe with the best fire protection rating you can
3) How likely is your area to flood? You might want to look at how water tight your safe is. Down here in Florida that's an almost requirement.
4) Humidity is your enemy. You want to either put am electric dehumidifying rod in it, or keep swapping out buckets of damp rid.
5) Installation. Pay for the installation. Make sure that you under stand the terms of delivery. Some places will only deliver it to your front door. If you live in a 2nd or higher story apartment they may just leave it at the curb. So make sure that your delivery contract includes delivery to your place of choice within your house and if possible installation.
6) Make sure that when you install the safe that it is bolted in place. In to the floor at a minimum. Into the wall if possible. If not then all a thief has to do is bring in a refrigerator dolly and he can walk out with your safe (which recently happened here the other week). Make sure that where you are installing the safe will support its weight. Make sure if you are putting it in a closet or spare room that the safe will fit through the door.
7) Make sure it is made out of quality steel with a quality lock. The simple cabinets that you can find at Wal-Mart during Christmas I can open with a pair of tin snips and and a fire ax.
8) Locking lugs. The best safes have locking lugs on all 4 sides.

A good midrange safe I would sugget would be the libery Lincoln. Hope this helps.

Thanks Frontline. The safe I'm looking at is the Colonial model from Liberty. It's got a rating of 80,000 BTU, 45 minutes at 1200 degrees. I'd really like the next model up, but it won't fit though my door.

It's going on a ground floor and I really don't plan on bolting down. I know I run some risk but the thing weighs like 600 lbs, so it won't be that easy to wheel it out.

What I'd really like to find out if the "Patriot" series of Liberty safes are the same as the Colonial safe. It appears to have the same specs, but I can't tell for sure. One of my local deals has one of these Patriots on the floor and it appears at a decent price. Like I said earlier, I believe it might just be an earlier model of the same safe but I can't seem to confirm that.

Not a problem. But you really need to bolt it down. Im not kidding. A thief will be able to wheel it out. Please bolt it into the floor. Otherwise you have simply made a convenient carrying case for a thief.

The Colonial is second from the bottom of the Liberty line. It has a45 min burn through @ 1200-1400 degree F. It is made of 12 guage steel wiht three layers of intumescent meterial. It has 11 bolts on 3 sides and a direct drive mechanism with a slip clutch to prevent "torquing". The CO23 holds 25 guns and the CO30 holds 30 guns..the difference is 6" in width...lots of other features if you are interested...you can go to www.libertysafe.com to review all of the models. I am looking at the Lincoln...

Hope this helps...

Since the question has been answered, and since we all know that Gun Threads are currently taboo, I'm closing this.
