First Season Flashback: There But For The Grace of God Go I

I was a huge SG-1 fan in the early seasons especially...in fact, I ordered the DVDs from England because they hadn't been made available in the US for a long time!

So tonight I rewatched this pivotal episode in which Jackson discovers the Quantum Mirror and ends up in the first instance of an alternate universe on SG-1. It was great to see Katharine, GEN O'Neill, COL Hammond and such...as well as Jackson being so wide-eyed as to find the amazing...amazing!

There's a sense of wonderment in Jackson that hasn't returned in a long time...at least since his ascension. Anyway...it was fun, it was tense, it was exciting, it was engaging...it was everything a good show should be.

Great stuff.

And the episode is also nice in that because it mostly takes place in an AU with a person from the RU who goes back at the end they can show off how really screwed Earth would have been back then had the Go'uld had come in force.

Ya know,I get the feeling Continuum did homage this episode in a way towards the end with baal's attack on Earth, but I digress. An excellent episode.

I wasn't really sold on SG-1's first season until this episode. I enjoyed what had come before, but this one just ramped things right up and I couldn't wait to get to season 2.

Awesome episode!!! I didn't really start looking at this series until this episode. From this episode through the end of the season I was totally hooked. It's probably one of the best alternate universe episode of pretty much any series I've seen.

I noticed that too. The "real" Hammond was correct in choosing not to do it- after all it, of course, wouldn't have accomplished anything and would've probably alienated- if not turned-Teal'C against Earth/SG Command, as well as Bra'Tac and any other anti-system lord Jaffa. This was in stark contrast to the decision made by the alternate O'Neill who DID choose to send a bomb to Chulak- a decision that ultimately kept him from being able to "sway" alternate Teal'C and led to alternate O'Neill's death.
