Judging from the way everyone is looking rather stunned at Sulu in this shot (who gives a thumbs-up, doesn't he?), I guess Sulu will be the one letting Kirk take the Captain's chair.

Also, isn't that Scotty behind Sulu? Why is he still holding up his hands?

You know, I'm surprised at the restraint they show with the aliens. With JJ's love of SW, I was half expecting a few 'horrible gelatinous blobs' in that crowd scene. Or at least some non-humanoids. But the aliens in these Starfleet Academy shots aren't any more 'alien' than what we've seen in the various series and movies. Not that I'm complaining, the Kelvin alien looks pretty cool and I'm sure there are some interesting ones in other parts of the movie.

Yeah, that's Scotty, standing right about in the "I like this ship. It's exciting" spot. I don't know why he's holding up his hands; there's not enough in that bit of the trailer to tell.

It is. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge, below and to the right of the drilling platform. The Presidio (Starfleet Academy) is at the near end of the bridge and Starfleet Headquarters is across the bridge on the Sausalito side.

Interesting that Kirk has huge moon boots in that shot. The all-black uniform must be the bottom layer of some sort of special survival gear or whatnot.

I think thats just part of the Ice planet uniform

Considering that it's larger than the JJprise I think it's a Galaxy Saucer too.

Considering that it's larger than the JJprise I think it's a Galaxy Saucer too.

Larger than JJprise? That's hard to say conclusively, since we don't know the perspective. And the edges of the JJprise are outside of the frame. My guesstimate is that the saucer radius, being farther away, is similar or slightly larger than the JJprise saucer radius. So it is probably a similar sized ship.

One thing is for sure, though... It is *not* a galaxy class saucer. That saucer section is much to round to be a Galaxy ellipsoid saucer.

It's just the saucer of a Kelvin-like ship.

I see what you mean, (there are some simularites)but I think it's just the saucer section of a Kelvin type vessel!
