Hmmm, like in the old cartoons, or maybe a Terry Gilliam animation -- the Enterprise takes a fatal hit, you see a network of cracks forming until it crumbles into tiny bits and falls downward off the bottom of the screen.
I don't get the swirling effect. It's like they're in a molecular blender.
When you think about what the transporter does, they sort of are.
