This doesn't fallow the previous films, why not Star trek 2009? I also keep asking myself, will this save Star Trek(TV, Movies...etc) or Be the final nail it the coffin. Everything has it's end. I think what I've seen so far is awesome...however this seem like a last attempt to save the Movie franchise and to give life back to the TV aspect of Star Trek. I hope this is a huge success...but what if it fails??? By the way, this feels like a reboot, not a contiuation.

Because it's the 11th feature film?...

Edit: It's just called 'Star Trek'. I never see "Star Trek XI" on any of the promotional trailers or teasers, same with posters.

So, I don't consider Superman Returns Superman 5...it is far removed from the originals...no matter the attempt to link them...What about The Dark Knight...was that considered Batman 5 or 6...I can't remember. :guffaw:

Star Trek XI is not the official name of the movie. We just use it for convenience and identification purposes.

The official name of the movie is just "Star Trek"

Maybe, but who cares...It's really unimportant.

Trek XI made sense I suppose at the time, and it stuck.
It does the job of letting people know which movie of the 11 we are talking about and that's about it.

I know it makes sense here, but what do you tell people who know little about Star Trek, do you tell them to see the 11th film or tell them??? I really don't like this movie being just called "Star Trek" It takes something away from the TOS and TOS movies.

JF

Well, I am hoping it will have a subtitle.

Like The Romulan Strategem or somesuch.

The other films were base on the TV show...even though this is based on the show...it is not a feature film based on the original show...it is like A new movie based apon an existing idea...I may not make much sense to you all here. :(

I don't see how it takes anything away from TOS or TOS movies. They still feel the same to me.

Anyway, I like that they just named it "Star Trek" with no stupid subtitles or numbers.(Except from Korea where they apparently call it Star Trek : The Beginning. How terrible is that, bleh)

As for what I tell people who know little about it ?

"Hey, there's this great new Star Trek movie coming out in May" And the conversation continues from there with more details and answers to possible questions the other person may have.

Just takeway the XI TrekBBS and call this forum Star Trek...just a suggestion.

JF

As others have said, the film is simply called "Star Trek". There will be no confusion as to "what to tell people" - you tell them to go and see Star Trek, the new movie at the cinema.

This forum is called Star Trek XI because as fans we're well aware of the previous movies and how this one fits into it all (or not). Besides, the whole forum is Star Trek, so that title wouldn't work.

And how will newcomers distinguish this from the original TV series, or even the animated TV series, which were both also officially called just "Star Trek"?

There is a forum called The Original Series, I don't think many new people know or care about the animated series.

This place is call The Trek BBS.
