Trek 11's ship IS the Enterprise

No trek ship is perfect that includes the original Enterprise

Those words are basphemy. The original Enterprise is perfection incarnate in starship form. To say it isn't perfect is like saying the sky isn't blue. There's just no way anyone can prove something so outrageous.

:looks around for snipers:

Um, I'll field this one gentlemen.

1. The interior sets of the E-Nil doesn't match the exterior models, sometimes not even close. For example, take the windows flanking the shuttlebay observation corridor set. No amount of stretching and scaling can make them line up with the windows on the exterior of the models.

2. The nacelle pylons are too flimsy.

3. The interconnecting dorsal is too thin and has unnecessary windows.

4. The E-Nil's saucer needs a gangway. Just one.

5. This kind of fits in #1, but deserves its own spot in the list. The shuttlebay set doesn't leave enough room for power conduits passing from the engine room to the nacelles via the pylons. The attachment points of the pylons would strongly need internal structural bracing of some kind. There is no room for it.

6. There was never established in TOS a consistent location for the torp launchers. It was, in fact, the main reason this battery was added to the TMP vessel, to remedy this oversight.

Shall I stop or go on?

This design only pisses off some of the fans.

If by "some" you really mean the True Fans, then yes I agree. It only takes a true, legitimate Star Trek fan who has never known the touch of tits or pussy to be properly outraged by the insult that is the new Enterprise.

Anyone not offended by this redesign? You're clearly not a Trek fan. Now go bang your girlfriend and leave Trek for those of us who truly care.

I have to conclude that post was meant to be read with tongue firmly imbedded in cheek.

Depends. It could be just a joke, it could also be very serious. Which intrepretation makes it funnier to you?

Well, one option makes me feel very sad for you.

Good point, but you forgot to mention the part about living in mom's basement studying tech books and Klingon dictionaries.

What a petaQ!
;)

I think these are awesome renders. I admit I didn't like the engine placement at first, but it really grew on me. These engines look POWERFUL. The TOS engines always seemed too thin to me. It made the original Enterprise seem really full of space. I wish the new ship's engines were a little farther out, and that the support struts weren't curved like that, but I can live with it. (My own personal non-canon "rationalization" is that a mistake was made during the design that wasn't discovered until after the ship's parts were constructed. So they engineered a "fudge" to fix it: I.E. curved supports. Later with new engine upgrades, then they could always replace those supports with better ones.) Otherwise, I like the new design for the old bird!

What I'm hearing is "it's too different from what I'm used to for me to like it"

Exactly.

The saucer looks too flat.

"The saucer is flatter than the TOS ship."

The nacelles are too close together, too tapered at the end and too fat at the front.

"The nacelles are closer together and shaped too differently from the TOS ship."

The secondary hull is too far forward, and the undercut below the shuttle bay is too long. I

"The secondary hull is further forward and the undercut below the shuttle is longer than on the TOS ship."

In fact, there's nothing "too close" or out-of-balance about the placement or design of the nacelles, and the placement and attachment of the secondary hull is a big logical improvement over the original ship. The only thing that's maybe less sensible is that the nacelle attachments look even more structurally weak than those of the TOS ship, further emphasizing this as a major flaw in the original that every later design has addressed in one way or another.

Yes. I am saying that compared to the Enterprise, this new version does not look as good. But, NO, it's not too different for me to appreciate as a ship class unto itself. That is to say, if it were a ship called the Congo, and was a Republic Class (or whatever), then yes. It has some merit.

However, based on my opinion on the technical and aesthetic values of this ship, there are many pointless changes (in relation to the Enterprise), and it’s proportions look wrong.

With some minor changes, this ship would indeed fit into the Trek universe around the time period in question, but it should have been used as new class ship on new adventures, with a new crew.

But I’m not arguing with you. This is the “New Enterprise”. I just don’t think it’s better. This ship looks like a messy blending of the Enterprises from TMP, TOS, Phase II, and a little TNG. Yet all bizarrely twisted with 1950’s inspired warp nacelles.

That does not make this Enterprise NEW and updated for today’s savvy and discerning moviegoers who are supposed to be wowed buy this look… They could have easily have just updated TOS Enterprise with great detail that would have looked fantastic on the big screen.

Even you may have liked it.

So let me get this right. The only woman you ever BANGED was the ENTERPRISE!:wtf:

FOR THE LAST TIME! this is a NEW universe:scream:!! it DOSEN'T HAVE TO FIT in to the original timeline! GAAWWDDD!!! get OVER it! Maybe if trek were SUCCESFUL over the past decade we woulden't be getting this new universe? you ever THINK about that? mmmkay!?:p

I agree that the nacelles are too close (which emphasizes how bulky and big they are compared to the 1701's nacelles of the past), and that the secondary hull sticks out too forward.

Same here. Otherwise it doesn't look too bad.

You're right. Time to shut down the BBS. We have nothing more to talk about. Everyone has to agree with only those who love the new enterprise.

Actually what you heard was "No it doesn't look beautiful. (Yes in my opinion- of course that's the point of the BBS- to give our opinions)."

Imagine that, people having opinions different from yours, and perhaps based purely on aesthetics.

Anything else we say about it is a value judgment made based on our own personal biases, and is not necessarily valid beyond that.

Don't you go all "your mileage may vary" on me, man.

Looking at Richter's images it strikes me that the one angle that works on just about every version of the Enterprise is shooting-up-from-below-and-behind - the "D" looks good this way, the TMP ship looks good this way, the JJprise looks good this way. I think it emphasizes the loft of the nacelles.

Wow, mature.

So? It has a 1950s look now, how's that an improvement if you're on the whole "it needs to look modern" bandwagon?
