TV shows not available on DVD

I just want the last five seasons of Third Watch. Then I can die happy.

AMEN!

I found this show while searching for something similar to NYPD Blue since they haven't released any more DVD sets for that. Now I watch it every weekday morning after I get home from work. Great stuff, and they need to finish releasing it - Japan already has the full series!

On A&E? So I'm not alone. I caught the original run. Didn't know what to think as the updated Emergency became The Shield of broadcast TV. As Sgt Cruz became a poor man's Vic Mackey. They are moving towards the finale right now.

I've been catching it just about every morning on A&E since around October - right in the middle of the second season. I'm hoping that they'll keep showing it through again, because I missed the first season (I currently don't have the money to pick up the first season on DVD) and some of the second.

Hill Street Blues - only two seasons have been released, and this was a bloomin' LANDMARK series which changed the face of TV. WTF?
Sales are the big killer for most of these sets. As was mentioned upthread, NYPD Blue had its first two seasons released in six-disc boxed sets with fancy packaging that sold for around $60; this was in the waning years of the show. When they didn't sell well, there were no more sets for a year or two, then the third and fourth seasons came out, priced at $40, but with four double-sided discs in those slim-line cases. Even those didn't sell well, probably in part because the show is a.) old news, and b.) no longer in reruns here in the U.S., so there's been nothing since then. Really drives me up the wall, because my two favorite episodes in the whole series are in the fifth season. :(

Anyway, HSB ran into a similar thing; it's been out of the public eye forever, and for whatever reason, people weren't biting. :(

Hill Street
and St. Elsewhere, to me, are the shows that Homicide and ER (and a lot of others) wish they could be. It's certainly true that their quality and place in TV history hasn't translated to DVD sales, but at the same time I think that it is hard to sell someone on a major dramatic series when they don't know if they'll ever be able to see the whole thing. Also, Fox spent next to nothing on promotion and packaging.

Still, I keep hoping as people have bought more and more series DVDs and their sales drop, the rest of HSB and St. E. will come out.

And also: Get A Life.

"Lets be careful out there."

Man, remember when HSB, L.A. Law and St. Elsewhere were the top of their genres? Great times. :techman:

Nothing Sacred - heck, they should have released it around the time Dogma came out; I wonder if the show would be considered even half as controversial now as it did 10+ years ago.

I do. And it was awesome.

And it wasn't just the quality of those shows. It was the fact that no one had ever done anything like them before. They represented a whole new direction for TV. One we take for granted now...but which at the time was stunningly different.

I remember seeing HSB for the first time and thinking "Wow, that is a gritty show. I mean, you can FEEL the grime coming through the screen at you!"

They'd never done that before with a show - intentionally made it so gritty, dark, and sometimes even drab in places to emphasize what these cops were REALLY up against.

Before HSB, even cop shows were happy/shiny.

L.A. Law was alot glossier...but it was really the first show with a huge cast and a bunch of stories going on all at once. And what a CAST! Tremendous, really, for such a large ensemble.

Mary Tyler Moore was the Lucille Ball of the '80s (in terms of using their prestige to produce quality programming).

A few years ago they were showing it on Sunday mornings when one week it was gone.. Since that time they have stripped the show in its current time slot. Just as soon as
Sgt Cruz goes out as a suicide bomber
and they show the future of the last season regulars they cycle back to episode one. The first season is on Netflix

-Today's Special

-The Real Ghostbusters (yes I know there is a giant series box set but I can't afford it and would like it if it came out in season sets)

It's supposed to be coming out in season sets later this year :)

I'm disappointed that the King of the Hill DVD releases seem to have just stopped despite having released 6 seasons already - moreso with Season 6 laughing at me with its little card saying 'Season 7 coming in fall 2006'...

Parker Lewis Can't Lose

Season 1 will be out June 30th.

Oh, Man! There's sixteen seasons of Power Rangers, and not a box set in sight. The Mouse just won't relent--use Megazord power on him!

Not Region 1, but box sets are being released in Region 4. Crazy, huh?

Tales of the Gold Monkey. There was a rumor that it was going to be released around the time that the latest Indy film hit theaters, but that turned out to be incorrect. I really want the show DVD. :(

I would like to have seasons 2-4 of Superboy. I never watched the series and only have seen the first season on DVD and would like to finish out the series. I know about the legal issues with the "Superboy" character but still want the entire series to go with my Superman DVD Collection.

I also agree about King of the Hill and would like to add the remainder of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Seconded.

I 'acquired' the show a few years ago, but the picture quality was terrible. Squashed frame etc. Shame.

I've seen the first season and the first season only, and I'm already confident in calling it one of my favourite shows ever. And since no TV network in Australia even shows reruns now, that's probably all I'm going to see until somebody pulls a finger out and gives me the other seasons on DVD.

It's maddening to be want to buy something that exists, but doesn't exist. Y'know?

i'd love time team to come out on dvd only seen two dvds and one of them isnt one of the series

Two shows I was buying seemed to be idling or dead in the water for a while - Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea went quite a while with no word on the final season coming out. Volume 1 of s4 will be out in March now, and volume 2 a bit later in the year.

The Partridge family's first two seasons came out six months apart, then nothing for about three years. The third season came out in the Fall and s4 just arrived last week.

Now if they would just finish the last dozen episodes or so for Baa Baa Black Sheep...

I've been watching them at work, which conveniently has all 132 episodes on Digital Betacam in our tape library. When I'm on a night shift me and my co-worker will watch a couple per shift, and right now we're about midway through season 2, and it's pretty good, and a handy way of killing a couple of hours. We also have the second season of Jeremiah, which will come in handy because (as stated upthread) there's no R1 release of that yet.
