Rapelay virtual rape game banned by Amazon

What does "irregardless" mean?

Isn't it just a longer way of saying "regard"?

English teacher here

The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead. [bolding mine]
As for the topic at hand...it disgusts me, but then so doest GTA. Amazon has the right, as a business, not to sell it.

Personally I think irregardless sounds and looks better then regardless, which is why I use it sometimes even though I know it's not a real word.

But do you use it to mean the opposite of "regardless"?
No typically when I use it it means the same thing as regardless.

I'm not an English teacher or major or anything like that, so using words or hearing other people use words like irregardless doesn't bother me. Though with you being an English teacher I can understand if you have a problem with it, I've had teachers (sometimes they weren't even English teachers) who've corrected my slang usage.

I remember when I was in Elementary school I had a teacher who would respond to "Can I go to the bathroom" with "I don't know, can you?", trying to get us to get used to using "May I go to the bathroom". I now use both can and may, though I imagine that I use may far more often then I would if I hadn't heard that teacher's response for an entire year.

It's not as cut and dried as all that. There's a seductive quality to the idea that the man you love and trust enough to play that fantasy with would want you so badly that he would be willing to break the law and refuse to take no for an answer just to get to you.

Sure, of course.

What you're forgetting though is that a "yes" is already given at the start of the "game" and usually there'a "safety word" that can be used at any time you want the action to stop because you're not feeling comfortable.

Yeah, that's called consensual non-consent. You agree limits before you start, but once you do start the "evil burglar" is in control and you have to play along with the fun unless it goes too far - which is where the safe word comes in.

In reality any man who broke into my house thinking he's going to have some fun without my consent is going to get his dick bitten off. End of story.

Well, that's kind of my point. In reality and not American television where tiny women beat up 6'4" marines wearing body armour every week, any man of the type I described is not going to give you the chance.

In reality, a real rapist would beat the woman up, have sex with the woman that bares no resemblance to "making love" and possibly even kill her when he's done. That's not what the women I'm talking about are fantasizing about.

1000 Ways to Die tonight featured a 32-year-old virgin who went to a dominatrix prostitute, was bound, gagged, and died of an allergic reaction to the latex suit she put him in.

There was also a woman who used a large carrot to masturbate and died when a sharp edge cut her vaginal wall and an air pocket traveled up into her heart.

Heh, furries ...

Dammit. Why is it always in the weird threads? :scream:
