The Typhon Pact is an alliance of six smaller powers neighboring the Federation and Klingon Empire -- Tholians, Gorn, Tzenkethi, Kinshaya, Romulan Star Empire, and the Breen. Their existence was discovered at the end of ASD, and they will be a/the focus of a series of 2010 books. More details as they develop...

It's an at-least-four-book series that will come out in 2010 featuring all of the ongoing 24th century series (TNG, Titan, Voyager, probably Aventine, Bacco, etc), centering on the Typhon Pact.

And to answer your obvious next question, read A Singular Destiny. Or Leisner's spoiler.

i plan on getting ASD sometime in the next week or so...so i wont read the spoiler, although thank you for posting it. then i should have my answers!

I'm pretty sure it's been comfirmed that the Aventine will play a big role in the Typhon Pact stuff.

I get the feeling that the Typhon Pact series might serve as the launching pad for an Aventine book series....

I wouldn't call the Romulan Star Empire a SMALL power

Well, they're much smaller than they used to be, with the Imperial Romulan State taking most of their farming worlds, military, and presumably a good chunk of territory as well.

KRAD said in one of the recent discussion threads that the Romulan Star Empire was evenly split in two. The north is the IRS, the south is the RSE.

In this case, the "north" would be side along the Neutral Zone?

Other way around, I think. "North" in the inaccurate sense of "toward the top of the page in the Star Charts map" -- which is actually coreward on that particular map. Galactic north is upward from the plane of the page.

I wonder if we'll see a Starfleet Intelligence focused novel in the upcoming series? I've always wondered how they operated and we don't see it much. Also, they got a black eye in not spotting the formation of the Pact sooner....

Spooks (the BBC 1 programme not the general nick name for intelligence officers) in space would be a pretty cool addition to the Trek 'verse.

Agreed. I used to love MI-5 (Spook's US) when I used to watch it on A&E here in the states, that is until I learned it was edited. I'm so glad PBS is showing the show with all of it intact, except for bleeped swearing. I'd love to see something along those lines in Trek Lit.
