What are you PLAYING?

Gears of War 2, Gears of War 2... a little more Gears of War 2 and...

Oh yeah, just beat BioShock again, on hard for good measure.

... back to Gears of War 2...

Persona 3:FES

My God is this game amazing! Long, too. I'm only into October and I'm 55 hours in. I beat Persona 4 before playing this and it took me 70+ hours, so I guess it'll take the same time to beat FES.

Up next I'm going to tackle the Digital Devil Saga series. I heard its awesome. Then after all this dark and dreary and apocalyptic-y-ness, I'm dying to try AR Tonelico.

I want the Atelier games so bad right now. I hear they're great, but I've a backlog of 16 rpgs to go through, so I kinda don't want to add too much to the pile. Is it really that fun?

Left 4 Dead (another great game from Valve) and Eve Online (where some very exciting things are currently happening).

FES was never released in Australia. Thankfully, it's en route to me in the post now. And P4 is out here next month :)

I got halfway through the standard edition of P3 and stopped when I knew FES was coming. Can't wait to get back into it.

Yeah, DDS is great. In fact, most Shin Megami Tensei sub-franchises are awesome. Nocturne/Lucifer's Call is probably the weakest, but I'd definitely recommend you check out Devil Summoner. I kind of think of the Persona series as a Japanese 'Buffy,' whilst Devil Summoner is more like a Japanese 'Angel.' You play a supernatural detective in 1920s Tokyo. It's a great yarn and a lot of fun.

Eternal Mana (the first Atelier Iris game) is pure magic. It looks and sounds adorable and while the story is cliched, it's told with wit and humour. It's actually very funny - like, laugh out loud funny - in a lot of places. The item creation mechanic is very intuitive and actually quite addictive. You can get as involved in that as you want. It has random battles, but the random encounter rate is set extremely low, and the battles themselves are not terribly difficult anyway. It's a joy to play, and so is its sequel. I have AI3 here ready to go next, but I've heard it's not quite as good as the other two.

Of course, Atelier Iris continues past that with the Mana Khemia series, which has thus far gotten mixed reviews but still sounds pretty great. I think the first two games (for PS2 and PSP) are out in North America right now, with the Euro/PAL versions to come in the next few months.

Fallout 3 :techman:

just beat the Operation Anchorage DLC . . . I paid 10 bucks for that? no wait I paid like 13 bucks for 1000 live points . . . now I have 200 I'll probably never use :(
and considering the complete flustercuck that is GFWL I may not even get the next batch of DLC

I almost want to write microsoft an angry letter, but it's not really worth the effort :(

I was playing Fallout 3, but a couple weeks ago my game locked up on me and I'd have to start from an earlier save (which was twelve hours before the save that got screwed up), and I haven't gone back to it yet. :(

Let see, I finished Valkyria Chronicles a little while ago and I absolutely adored it so I'll definitely play it again. I'm also playing through Grand Theft Auto IV again. I got Magic Ball last night so I played some of them. I also play Age of Booty and NHL 08 every once in a while. I need to finish Mirror's Edge and I've barely started Metal Gear Solid 4 (I've had it since it was released) and Fallout 3.

I've been surprised how much I've been playing Midnight Club: Los Angeles recently. I have no interest in blinging out (or ricing, or whatever) cars in real life, but I picked this up at half-price from Asda more or less so that I could lark about in a customised Mustang over a weekend when I had nothing else planned. As it's turned out, it's probably the game I've spent the most time playing in the last six months, with the possible exception of Saints Row 2 (another game that I had no real expectations for but ended up hugely enjoying). When's the damn DLC coming out?

It's bloody hard, though. I was almost put off buying it because almost every review complained about the ruthless rubber-banding AI, and they weren't kidding. If you make one mistake, you might as well restart the whole race. But being able to paint a Mustang to look like Barricade from Transformers, or turn a Cobra into a multicoloured, tiny-wheeled clown car (that can still beat Lamborghinis), makes up for it.

Glad you liked it. The DLC should be out soon, so that will prompt me to get it out once again.

Have you tried any of the skirmishes on hard mode? It's unlocked once you start a second playthough and, my god, they are HARD. I thought I was pretty good at the game - especially after my handling of Chapter 17, which was brutal - but these damn things totally kicked my arse. The DLC includes an extra hard mode, which I'm sure will be, like, torturous. Still, I can't wait :D

^ Unfortunately I won't be able to get the DLC. My credit card doesn't work in the UK (or German) PSN store. It does work in the US one though, but US DLC isn't compatible with European games.

And no, I haven't tried any skirmishes on Hard yet. I'll get around to it at some point though. And I actually didn't think Chapter 17 was all that hard.

Counter Strike

I only play death matches, because I get bored and annoyed with the regular game (like how seriously some take it).

I get tired of Dust and Dust2...people like those maps waaaay too much.

DS:
Final Fantasy III
Pokemon Platinum
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

PS2:
Sonic Unleashed
Star Trek: Encounters & Shattered Universe
Underworld: The Eternal War

Counter Strike

Dust was overplayed back when the WTC towers were still standing.

I wish CS/CSS were still under active development. During beta and for a time after release (when kids had to carry the bus to school) the official map rotation was fluid from patch to patch. From 1.3 or so onwards there were more maps removed from the rotation (Vertigo, Thunder, Siege, etc.) than added to it. I think Dust2 was the last map added to the official rotation before Valve dropped CS for new and shinier toys they could actually charge money for. I'll give 'em props for the MMO-esque economy system though, even though nobody uses it, not so much for the in-game advertising that was their last real contribution to the game. I got bored with vanilla CS shortly after 1.6, the WC3 RPG mod kept things interesting for a while longer though.
