Hear your mofo President swear like a trooper

I don't need to hear swearing to know it is a sign of ignorance.

Then you're aware that he was quoting someone else. Excellent. I expect an apology to be forthcoming.

No apology necessary.

The fact that profanity and vulgarity is a sign of ignorance still stands.

No it doesn't because you have failed to prove you point. At best it's an IMHO but you're stating is fact.

Do you consider George W. Bush ignorant? Dick Cheney? Richard Nixon?

All have shown a command of the four letter invectives in the English language,

About the only US president I can't imagine swearing in Jimmy Carter. Which means, he probably swore like a drunken sailor at the free clinic, he probably just did in that down-home, friendly grandpa sitting on the front porch way of his.

The guy was a sailor for fuck sake - I'm sure he knows how to swear unless it's only the enlist rates who swear :)

Here's a thought, who'd want to tell a senior NCO that swearing is a sign of ignorace?

Yeah, but can you just imagine Carter with that smile and that accent and that friendly tone his always has swearing?

Just the mental image...

Now Kennedy, now that's a man who probably appreciated a well cultivated swearing. I remember reading some Lincoln bio. back in AP US History, that said old Abe was prone to rages of cursing at times.

The Professional Institute of Statistical Studies, Functional Language Analysis, Profanity and Swearing (or P.I.S.S.F.L.A.P.S for short) proved that swearing equaled ignorance in 1972. Fact.

Don't be an idiot. I don't like Obama either, but it's also a sign of ignorance to act like any stick is good enough as long as you can beat Obama with it. So he says swears. He's a man, big deal. It's a non-story, in spite of all the insipid "I love a president who knows how to swear" bullshit that's flying around here.

I suppose the school computer technician.

I can only post between classes anyway or during my free period.

Couple this with JP's comments about teenagers trying to swear and I think you'll see where Dayton is coming from. It's very likely that the vast majority of the swearing Dayton's heard comes from ignorant teenagers. Thus he concludes that swearing is a sign of ignorance since there is a strong correlation between the two within his frame of reference.

Ah, so since he is around teenagers all the time (and probably jocks), that is really the only level that he knows how to relate to people anymore. I can understand why he would consider swearing ignorance. Teenagers don't quite get the art of the language yet and just swear to try and act older than they really are, which ironically makes them seem like immature children.

So you want me to run for president again? Yeah, sure, absolutely, I'll do it. I'd be honored to do it—with my fucking dick in your mouth, you worthless scumbags.

You had your chance with Jimmy Carter, and you fucking blew it. So get fucked. Fucking country

Jimmy Carter, filthy man

Swearing and using vulgarity is a sign of ignorance.
No, it isnt.

Anyone who can't express their thoughts without resorting to profanity and/or vulgarity is showing their level of ignorance.

They are using "shock value" of words to compensate for the lack of logic and reasoning.
Where is it indicated that one "can't express their thoughts without resorting to profanity and/or vulgarity"? Does your worldview not allow for someone to choose?

This is strange. I didn't listen to the tapes, but from the summary above, it sounds like all he is doing is quoting someone use vulgarity. While I don't think this is horrible or new, I certainly don't understand how Obama saying these words in any context makes him "human" or awesome" or could evoke statements like "I love him even more now".

Most everyone swears and isn't amazing or even noteworthy,

Uh, that isn't Obama swearing. He's reading his audio book in which he quotes another individual swearing. It is kinda a different thing.

Although I am sure Obama swears, just like any other human being.

As pointed out, our last President cursed as well, so this isn't news (actually, it's honestly not even worth more than a chuckle, since he's not actually cursing at anyone).

Dayton, did you even look at the link? You might want to find out context before you start complaining, or else you'll look ignorant. All your arguments are applying to George W. Bush, but not to Barack Obama. Obama was reading out loud from his book, in which he was repeating actual quotes from someone else.

EXACTLY! Your bias is showing again, Dayton3, like a 42nd St. whore's g-string! It wasn't as if Obama cursed out a reporter or a staffer, the way Dubya or Nixon would! Even Obama's opponents have grudgingly complimented him on his oratorical skills. Someone like that is hardly ignorant. -- RR
