EJD1984: I'm not sure I see a different kind of shuttle; what are you seeing which makes you think so? And which structure are you thinking is the shuttleport exterior? Someone mentioned a logo and Tagruato before, but I still don't see where that is.

The Targruato Logo is at the top of the 1st building from the left.

Here's what I'm referring to as to the other logo, shuttle, and hanger:

Okay, got it. :techman: Not having seen Cloverfield, I wasn't sure what I was looking for and I couldn't tell whether that was the logo or some sort of surface detail -- your highlighting it in red (and my looking up some other examples) helped.

The hangars are the ones I thought you might have meant, (right next to the Palace of Fine Arts, hmmm... ) and the shuttle you've indicated seems to have nacelles in a down configuration, as opposed to the top-mounted ones we've seen. Do you know if anyone's gone over the shuttleport interior photos to see if they can spot other shuttlecraft without the high-mount nacelle configuration?

We ever answer the question of what exactly that beam was doing? I recall it came up several pages back. :D
It came up and got kicked around a bit, but all we've really got so far is a possible ID of the device as the GSD (or its close relative) and a lot of conjecture. Either we'll get a few more details leaked in the interim or we'll just have to wait and see the movie to find out what that's about. (Probably not good news for anyone who happens to be in the vicinity when it happens, though.)

I haven't been following all the speculation, but I think the beam is what Nero came back
in time to do, destroy SF HQ and the academy and just generally ruin life for humans on
Earth, hopefully getting Kirk, and keeping the whole future history as we saw it in all the
previous Star Trek's from ever happening. The 'fog' in this picture is pollution to show
how horrible life on Earth is after his attack 'changed the past'. Think BladeRunner, not
Star Trek. I think the fact that the academy pictures are all bright and colorful and this
is gray and dingy says it all...

Old Spock's mission is come back and set things right by getting young Kirk on the
Enterprise 'like he was suppose to be' with young Spock, and the whole gang. In this
way, even though Nero changed the past, the future will (almost) be the way it was
suppose to be because Kirk and company will be there (almost) the way they would
have been if Nero hadn't done what he did.

I scanned through that scene, and you really can't tell/see any other shuttles that appear to have the lower mounted nacelles. Though there does seem to be a few shuttles in the background that appear to have a slightly different nose profile that could be this new/second type shuttle.

The one thing I noticed about this new shuttle, it that it has a larger cockpit window, that looks very reminiscent of the starfleet shuttle that appeared in TMP.

Those, especially the bottle, just made my effing day. :techman:

From how it looks in this shot, LINK , You can see a few different/interesting things.

1. There appears to be another type of shuttle.

2. You can see what looks to be the outside of the shuttle's hangar(s).

3. There's also interesting logo/name on the top of the pyramid shaped building (that is about a 1/3 of distance from the left, and just to the left of the 1st shuttle). I wonder if this is something new that could be hidden/viral out on the internet similar to what they did with the Tagruato Corp. in Cloverfield.

I LOVE the lighting and composition of that shot. The little details that make it look real would be things like the far smaller structures in the foreground near the bank, the presence of foliage that looks real and not overexposed and neon green. It looks like an overcast day in an image shot from the 23rd century and smuggled back to us.

I can sit here and examine this one frame for hours. That to me screams OCD at its best!

Yeah I don't get why people are complaining about that shot, I love it personally. I hated how they implied the weather modification net always resulted in bright sunny days seemingly endlessly. Boring, boring thing to do, so bleak as that day looks its a great shot.

I went back and looked again in the shuttle hanger, and I believe I've found a few of these new type of shuttles.

It seems to me the main/first shuttle we've seen is more of a wartime troop carrier type of shuttle, and this new one we seeing could be more of keeping in line with the TOS Gallieo mission-type/size shuttle.

A couple more observations... Do we have the Federation and Starfleet emblems on these buildings here ?

drs4e6.jpg

I'd say yes. And there also appears to be a 2nd UFP logo on the building directly behind the Starfleet logo (looks like you captured it in the box as well).

Maybe the UFP logo on top of the tower lights up and rotates......."Billions and Billions of Space Cadets Served"

I just noticed this picture a bit better...EJD1984 did you perhaps indicate the wrong 3 shuttles as being similar ?
Notice the blue glow

Saurian Brandy bottles in the bar fight? SWEEEEEET.:p

I hope the movie has a lot of these little tidbits thrown in to pique our interest so it doesn't feel TOTALLY new and revamped.

Quite possibly I goofed (old age.....)

However, the shuttle you're indicating appears to have a straight upper window profile, and the shuttle window in the SF shot appears to be curved.

Then perhaps there is now a third shuttle.............and most likely even more - Remember also the mini looking shuttles coming out of the Kelvin.

Abrams & Co. have indicated that they want to "Star Wars Up" Trek, so they've most likely created a plethora of new types of ships/shuttles to busy-up the movie

I went back and looked at JoeRalat's high-res images and observed the same thing you've pointed out here. I think there were a couple more of the same kind of shuttles in the facing row, to the right.

Definitely the right place to find them. That little dark dome-shaped building cut off at the left edge of the photo (about level with the two banking shuttles) is the Palace of Fine Arts -- see it also in the image here

between the lead shuttle and the two following, just next to the lead shuttle's "wingtip" -- which sits at the east entrance to the old Presidio grounds, meaning that these building are on the Academy grounds (probably occupying approximately the same spot as the current Lucasfilm campus,) and that the hangar buildings (flanking the cylindrical structure indicated by your left red arrow) would be just the place you'd expect to see cadets shipping out, as in the shot marked up by EJD1984 above.

I hope they still make Hostess cakes by then. No utopia would be complete without empty calories and adult-onset diabetes.
