UK BBSers: From Russia with SNOW....

It's 10:44 am now. I start work at 11:30am
I'm debating whether I can be arsed going in. It's only a 5 mile drive to get there, but it's through country roads which are gonna be icy as heck.
Looking out my window now it's snowing like mad. Hmm......

Got thunder and lightning now along with the snow...

What about wind? Bad weather isn't truly bad unless a decent gust is blowing.

A couple of weeks ago we had winds that reached about 130 kph. It was garbage day and I was walking home from the shopping centre when the winds first hit. I must have seen 50-100 wheelie bins blown over and rubbish and recycling was flying down the street so I not only had to walk against the wind I had to dodge flying newspapers/catalogues and rolling cans etc.

It was a nightmare.
It's stopped now, and it's only a light wind with the occasional gust. We did have some bad winds a couple of weeks ago though, gusts up to 80mph according to the weather reports.

what snow?

I woke up to this today

I thought the only line that has no above ground start/finish is Victoria.

See here.

Uniquely among London's Underground lines, the Waterloo & City runs underground for its entire length, including both stations. (The Victoria line comes closest to this, with the only non-underground section being that to the depot).

The snow seems light here - but that means no going anywhere. As soon as theres the smallest hint of bad weather Scotrail decides to delay and cancel trains just in case they get wet.

Been snowing for an hour or so here, still the lightest of dustings, but probably enough for everyone to panic. We really can't handle snow in the country

Well I'm gonna go in. I'll probably be posting on here later on tonight how I crashed my frigging car because of the ice

For once I'd like to see a proper snowfall, ya know, at least 6 inches and see what happens. I haven't seen that much snow in 15 year or more. I don't remember that much panic back then, but then I was probably too busy going out to make a snow man, or an igloo or something.

^ The amount we overreact to this stuff, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone with snow chains on yet.

A good 7 or more inches in the gardens.

Waking up to a magical winter wonderland this morning.

^ A gorgeous blanket of purity. It has not snowed like this for 18 years. Very special.

Quite Dickensian scenes today! All we need now are horses and carriages... :D

When Hobart suffered its " Big Snow" about 20 years ago it bought the whole city to a stop. However I think it was understandable as we so rarely get snow. I think that snow has only ever settled in the city centre about 3 times in my life (and I am 50 years old). We are also a hilly city so driving becames very dangerous when the roads are covered in snow.

School was cancelled for the day and most people didn't go to work.

One man did get to work by skiing over the Tasman bridge and another, who lived in Ferntree (Tasmania's highest suburb which gets snow quite regularly) drove his snowmobile down right into the city centre.

Spoke to my little brother and sis, and they're also off school, and about to go play outside for snow-fights.

Wish I had a pair of snow shoes to go visit them with.

And they say there's more to come!

It's snowing outside my office now.

It's pitiful when you see what places like New York and Moscow have to put up with. My day is not wasted! Hurrah! The delivery man came (Scottish of course) and then strode nonchalantly back into the blizzard.

We're complete weather pussies in this nation.

As it happens it only takes a small amount of snow to make part of my walk to work an exercise in sledging without the sledge. Managed to not come down the hill on my ass tho.

There's no snow where I am in far South West Cornwall, in fact it's very sunny, albeit cold.

My motorbike seat was frozen solid this morning, but since it hasn't rained or snowed at all there was no ice on the roads.

I heard a swallow had survived the winter in Cornwall for the first time ever, but I don't fancy his chances now...

It's snowing again.

Fortunately the gritter has been down our street. It has never been down our street before.
