Super Bowl Commercial on YouTube

Is it just me or did the Youtube version of the commercial from last night lack that shot of Uhura rolling her eyes at Kirk at the bar?
No, I'm pretty sure it was in there.

Really? Mind you last night I was hopped up on martinis from my birthday dinner so I might not have noticed.
It's really quick -- only a very few frames -- but there was a bit with Uhura in the bar. And Happy Birthday! :techman:

And does Hollywood have something against San Francisco? First the Golden Gate Bridge gets the Statue of Liberty from Planet of the Apes treatment in the Land of the Lost trailer, then whatever's going on in the Star Trek trailer, and finally a giant robot falls on the bridge in the Monsters vs. Aliens trailer. Makes me wonder if earthquakes are the least of our concerns in these parts.
Wait, wasn't someone complaining not too long ago about it always being New York City that got destroyed by cataclysmic disaster or attacked by aliens?

I do wonder about the drilling location in the Super Bowl spot, though; it seems to be right in between the San Andreas and Hayward faults, but not on a major fault.
Maybe they were going after the Vulcan embassy in Sausilito. The restaurant I was at last night was fairly close to it.
One of those right by the ferry terminal?

Close as in you could see it from my table, along with the top of the bridge towers over the hills. Of course, that whole neighborhood's out of my income bracket. Even my Mustang started feeling inadequate passing by all those Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porches parked along the street. I guess the Vulcans got one hell of a tax break when they set up shop there, to say nothing of the whale museum twenty years ago.

Someone had important connections, no doubt.

Try Brisbane -- it's kinda like Sausalito, but no ferry stop, no waterfront restaurants, not so many expensive cars and no whale museum. And probably no Vulcans, though I couldn't guarantee that with any certainty -- there's a fair amount of strange folk there.

Yes, but this restaurant's list of sea kittens is unmatched from what I've heard (and for some reason, just after my sister and I spent the afternoon watching Airplane!, a nun was at the table next to us). Plus they have a whole page in their alcohol list devoted to martinis. Thankfully, I didn't end up driving home.

i wanted to watch the new trailer again, but its already been yanked from youtube. anyone know if it can be found elsewhere on the net?

If San Francisco gets destroyed in this movie, that's going to make me nervous. I leave for San Fran on May 9th, and I'm very...superstitious. :D

I think that maybe, just maybe, that isn't an attack on San Fran, but maybe some sort of fireworks or something for the graduating class.
I hope not though, as it would make that quick shot from the commercial a real tease.

They spent 3 million dollars on a pretty weak trailer.

I guess Nimoys parts are so small that they can't bare to give one up?
First, it wasn't a trailer, it was a TV commercial -- just like the sevearl other TV commercials they will be showing in April and May leading up to the opening of the film.

Secondly, the point of the ad was to let the 90 million to 100 million people watching in the U.S. knowthat a new Star Trek film was coming out -- nothing more than that -- and it seems to me the ad did just that.

As for Nimoy -- I suspect that his screen time in this film is NOT that great (although that doesn't mean his part may not be important to the story), so I suspect that showing his recognizable face to many of the non-fans who are watching the Super Bowl might put across the wrong impression -- and that impression would be that this film keys on Nimoy, when in actuality it does not.

The scene immediately before the "cadets on the steps outside the Academy" scene shows a ship in orbit (the Giant Space Drill?) shooting a beam at the San Francisco Bay area below. Look at this screenshot thread: http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=2564196&postcount=2

I thought the spot was pretty good...pretty action oriented which was pretty much the point for a Super Bowl spot which is to get your attention and this one did! Damn...attacking San Fran is interesting. Liked the Kirk and McCoy meeting on the shuttle, was Kirk drinking out of a flask?

When I look at the screen caps...wait...they're putting skyscrapers in the Presidio?

That's it. I'm boycotting this movie.

How is that bad dialogue? Sure it's a bit more contemporary than we're used to in Trek, but it still sounded like a pretty natural and realistic line to me.

Anyway, I loved the trailer. It was pretty much the same kind of frenetic, rapid-fire trailer I expected to be shown during the Super Bowl-- in fact it holds it's own rather well next to the other flashy movie trailers for TF, GI Joe, etc, which is probably what they were aiming for.

agreed...I would rank TREK right behinD ANGELS AND DEMONS trailer...
