Just finished Before Dishonor...

The regulars here rarely agree with each other. It's not as if we unite to gang up on new posters. Every opinion will have a range of reactions. As in real life.

Actually you do, and Janeway fans have been treated that way for years. It's time it stopped.

Brit

You know, we went on and on about this in a ridiculously long thread already, and whereas it was entertaining as hell, do we really need to go down this road again?

I for one am not interested in this thread being hijacked like the thread in question by either pro or anti Janeway fanatics.

To a lot of us threads like this are started expressly to cause dissention between the Pro and Anti Janeway factions. And ultimately to run the Pro Janeway faction off. You know it's a very hot button but you start it anyway. PMs were made for private discussions, if you post a public thread then you get public response.

What the fuck are you on about?

I can't talk for the OP because I am not him/her, but I was under the impression this thread was created to air his/her opinion on a book that has, for which ever reason the reader has said, has been slated.

I personally havn't said much in this thread and my opinion on the book itself because I read it a while ago and I can't actually remember much about it.

BUT. From what I do remember, I enjoyed the novel, it wasn't as good as say Q&A or Greater than the Sum which are also in the post Nemesis timeline of books or PADs previous Borg adventure in Vendetta, but I enjoyed it and in my own little world, if I enjoy something, I don't normally care if some one hates it as if we were all the same, things would be boring beyond belief.

If you're "Ensign" level, and a regular to TrekBBS, how would you know what we've done "for years"?

Have you recently re-registered under a different identity?

The hell?

Look, if you want to make up a persecution that isn't there, more power to you, but it's not going to make you come across very well. Since this has been going on, "for years" here, as you say, please to show your work.

Exactly. But I'm also not a member of an "anti Janeway faction". She's probably my favourite VOY character. And yet, I supposedly shut down Janeway thread newcomers through humour and wordplay.

I thought Before Dishonor was a pile of manure, not the least for what it did to Janeway. When you throw that at a bunch of fans, in both senses of the word, well, one shouldn't be surprised that the result is a shitstorm, if you'll forgive the vulgarity of the image.

As to the rest of it, some people spend so much time being insulted one begins to think they actually enjoy it. And that, unlike the paragraph above, is not a partisan statement.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

There still is a Pro-Janeway faction around which holds it's ground rather well in discussions(Trent Roman, kimc etc). Might be more than a coincidence that those still around are those actually able to post more than: *whine, whine, whine* "They killed my favorite character and should die a slow painful death." *whine, whine, whine*

And how is that any different than

*gloat gloat gloat* your favorite character is dead *gloat gloat gloat* "and it's your responsibility to support us and our opinion and be D***with yours."

At least that's what I see. It's our right to protest, so as someone has said "get over it."

No one has gloated over the death of Admiral Kathryn Janeway. But if I am wrong and you can prove it, do so. If not, then stop your complaining.

ClayinCA's Avatar is gloating as are you and you know it. And you cannot make me stop complaining it's my right to complain. Again Get over it.

And on which board was this said?

Several of my all-time favourite ST characters are dead: Data, Janeway, and a character from the excellent "Ex Machina". But I'm still reading.

I don't think anyone gangs up on "Janeway fans." I'm a Janeway fan, and I've never felt ganged up on for that. But there's a small group of what I'd have to call militant Janeway fans, a very small number of people who choose to be aggressive and confrontational about their preferences and get hostile toward other posters, authors, and editors when Janeway isn't treated exactly the way they want. And their aggressive behavior and extreme positions naturally provoke objections and counterarguments. That's got nothing to do with fondness for Janeway. It's a response to the provocative, confrontational posting style of these few people. People who are in no way representative of Janeway fans or Voyager fans as a whole and who have no right to speak on behalf of all Janeway fans, despite their persistent tendency to pretend they do.

Why would the Borg be interested in Pluto? Especially since its mostly ice... does it say why they bothered "eating" Pluto?

No reason really. It was just in their way i guess. You see, the Borg Cube in Before Dishonor has the ability to absorb matter and energy, making itself grow bigger.

Actually the Borg were just acting on Pluto's status as a planet being changed and seeing how the Federation was behind in dealing with said change decided to act being the efficient kind and benevolent beings they are

I'm gloating? really? in no way am I nor can I actually comprehend why you would think it. I personally think in a world where knife crime is up and a recession is beginning to bite, I think the events of a fictional story in a fictional universe is a non entity and arguing it for what ever reason is like pissing into the wind, not exactly big or clever.

Maybe he thinks of your proper comma usage as rubbing it in.

There have been several posts in any number of threads on the book or character that have celebrated both Janeway's death and the degrading fashion in which it occured. I could try to track down the posts in question if you really need to see them for yourself, but I'm not sure why you'd think I'd bother to lie.

And then, there's Before Dishonour itself, which--to this reader, at least--had a distinct sense of glee about it...

No it's actually a rather large group of fans that have kept to themselves for a number of years, but the insulting manner with which our favorite character has been treated in the latest books has brought us back. We are not whining, we are mad as Gre'thor. We would have been glad to have left you all alone if you hadn't killed her, and told us not only we had to accept it but we had to read your books too.

I can understand why you would like to think we are a small group but we are not. We are not going to buy Dead Janeway books and we are going to tell Pocket Books why we are not buying their books. They seem to be listening here so they are going to listen to us too.

And by the way we are going to start telling them what we will buy, and given this economic situation, and the trouble that all publishers are in, chances are we will be heard.

Ok, I really do not think I have seen anyone get that unfriendly to other new posters, other than the people like the militant Janeways fans (I like that term, Therin) who come on and start ripping on things for one stupid reason or another. From what I've seen on here, and I've been here for a while as you can tell, as long as you are polite, and say things that actually make sense, then most people on here are pretty nice.

Ok, so can we move on now, this is getting really, really, fucking old already.
