Oh fer... ST-One has started and replied to plenty of substantive discussions elsewhere on this board. You, on the other hand, I can only recall having posted in two places: here, and your interminable blueprints thread in the Art forum. Do you really want to go down the road of judging the content of other people's posts?

I don't recall any of my points actually being countered, only my reaction to an inappropriate picture being posted on a public board by a poster that seems to only post on these boards for the express purpose of yanking chains.

Wanna debate my points? Great, have at it.

Wanna post pics of naked porn stars? Take it somewhere else.

This thread being as large as it is, I would ask that you list your points all in one post so that they can be answered.

Let me put it this way.

Do you want to have an honest discussion of the issues raised by this episode, open to all sides, so that all sides can learn something, or just hang out the "Breeders need not contribute" sign and let the flames rise high into the night?

So far you haven't initiated an "honest discussion" that's "open to all sides" nor have you presented something that all sides can learn from. All you've done is have a reactionary response to a single picture and paid lip service to this so-called "gay agenda," all the while spouting hyperbole of said picture.

No one has said that straight people aren't welcomed here. No one has labeled them breeders. And none of them have given you the right to speak for them. You can only speak for yourself. Not one person in this thread has condemned straight people. So far, I haven't seen one "offended" or "oppressed" straight person anoint you the spokesperson.

The post below is the closest you've come to discussing the episode at hand. And yet it still contains potshots more than it does constructive criticism:

Emphasis mine

<snip>

And gay folks wonder why they get accused of trying to ram an agenda down our throats.

<snip>

It has more to do with Freeman trying to get into Peter's jumper from the second he entered the room, which pretty much turned the entire four minute scene into a snogfest. Seriously, David, I've participated in orgies that were more subtle. Certainly Alex can show concern and affection for Peter without coming on from the get-go with an attitude of "C'mon, big boy, get nekkid and fuck me now!" At least he could've behaved himself until checking Peter's injury, and then started in with the kissyface.
The rest has been dribble in terms of your perception of a grievous offense.

If these things perturb you so much, then why continue to peddle around these parts?

I have been following this thread with interest but haven't chimed in until now. I think people who fear sexuality in Trek probably fall in two camps - (1) those who object for various moral reasons, and (2) those who fear that the sex is just being substituted for meaningful content to get ratings.

No, there's a third "camp" that's actually more pervasive and obvious than the two you define: the folks who are just plain embarrassed and uncomfortable with direct expressions of sexuality in entertainment. It's as reflexive as six year olds covering their eyes during the "kissing scenes" in a movie, and has nothing to do with concerns with either morality or quality. And it's this third group that we're actually seeing represented here.

Holy crap... you're right! I just couldn't see it because that's really a non-issue for me but when you put it that way, I totally see it. Wow. Just, wow. I think you've blown my mind.

Crap are we going to have to not show that, either? :p

Jerry: "Ah, you're crazy."
Kramer: "Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?!"
Jerry: "It's impossible!"
Kramer: "Is it? Or is it so possible that your head is spinning like a top?!"
Jerry: "It can't be."
Kramer: "Can it? Or is your entire world just crashing down all around you?"
Jerry: "Alright, that's enough."

:p

Judging from what I've seen around here the last few years, that "third camp" is by far the largest. :rommie:

Perhaps you could stop putting these insults in our mouths (if that request doesn't make me a 'whiney ass').

Even though 'the scene' doesn't actually fit into how TOS depicted any romance, it gets its point across: We all love each other and show affection to each other in the same way.
'The scene' doesn't show anything we haven't seen countless times before already in other movies and TV shows, only this time it's two men.

So, uh, did anything else happen in Part 1 that is of interest? I've been really busy lately and I haven't decided whether or not to watch it.

A marriage is scheduled...
A ship with the whole crew dead is found...
The Enterprise gets heavily damaged in a fight with the Klingons...
Someone dies the most horrible death in all of Trek...
We see the beginnings of the transition to the (original) Phase II designs...
Thereis. Abitof... Shatnertalk!

Yeah, that grisly death was supremely grisly. I couldn't even look at the screen.

Not again. :( Which one?

This one:

Whew! :D

That ship is beautiful-- a Reliant-class ship as it would have been seen in the TOS Era, presumably. :bolian:
