That may also have been for "Tattoo" where they ended up having a "butt double" stand in for him when he undressed planetside.

 

He had a chance in "Tattoo"--but that wasn't him in the shot. What a shame.

 

I KNOW!! I at first thought it was him and then he said it was a stunt double and not him. Man, he killed the mood! ARRGGH! And kimc, I think you're correct. He was speaking about "Tatoo". He wasn't out of shape from where I was standing! Not by a long shot!

 

Wow, that was hilarious! Yes, talk about biting the hand that feeds you. I must commend Beltran for correcting that Skitz putz when he imitated a fan with a speech impediment -- that was uncool. Like he's such a macho man! Not!

I also found it hilarious when he made fun of the old TOS Kirk uniform -- I'm so glad they used red for command in the newer shows, instead of that horrific gold-green color scheme. I just wish they could have used a deep green instead of the mustard/gold, but that probably would've been visually too close to the sciences blue.

Let's face it, everyone bitches about their job and the absurdities inherent in them, so in that respect, Beltran is like all of us. I do think some of the things he said were tongue-in-cheek, but let's face it -- technobabble is silly!

I totally agree, RR. Technobabble is silly! I mean, who says those words? And yes, everyone complains about jobs because they have a right to! And I thought it was commendable for him to tell that skitz host to not make fun of impediments. That was a little uncalled for, although it was funny cause it reminded me of one of the charactesr in the movie Ice Age.

 

Oops, kimc, I guess we thought the same thing.

In "Tattoo," we did get to see his shoulders. Wow! Very nice, smooth, golden-brown skin.

As for technobabble, I'm sure real people would be using shorter terms and not explaining themselves to the Captain. She knows what they mean. But you hear this on CSI all the time! One character explains the test to the other when you figure the other better know what the hell the test is about. Once you realize that it's all for the audience's sake, the Trek technobabble becomes a bit more understandable. I mean, can you imagine:

"Captain, there's an enemy ship firing at us!"
"No shit, Ensign. Why don't you shut up and just fire back? Do I have to tell you how to do everything?"

 

Oh, I don't know...I think I would've gotten a kick out of it if we'd seen Janeway say that!

Um, Beltran crap actor playing a crap character. I would have much rathered his handful of episodes given to either Seven, Doctor, Janeway, Belanna, Tuvok or Paris.

I love all this talk of residuals thinking it can set someone up for life. Not while they're still living in Hollywood it ain't. Not to mention residuals decrease over time. And it's Star Trek. Not ER, or CSI or any other network TV.

Yes Mr. Beltran, live long and proser with the money you have earnt bitching and biting the hand that feeds considering you were very lucky to even have the job in first place due to your wooden acting.

Umm, are you aware you are watching Sci-Fi. How many of us say "put a tractor beam on it." Sheesh, you need technobabble. All this whinging over it.

Why does a person have the right to compain about their job if they aren't going to do anything about. He wasn't saying "Oh man, I hate these early mornings. He was criticising cast, writing, producers, the lot. If you hate your company you would leave.

 

You are 100% correct on this.
Many think these actors are set for life off the money they make from these shows, they don't. Most barely make more than your avarage office worker. Actors on TV making "Friends" type money is extremely rare. Plus, fans should pay closer attention to actors fueds with studios over raises which happens frequently on shows like ER & CSI.

If they fighting for more money, how much could an actor on Trek be making? It sure it's enough for them to stop looking for work. They showed John Billingsly on the Real Estate network last week, I live in a better home than that man & his wife does. These actors wouldn't need the extra cash from doing Cons. if they got paid good money.

Trek is not a feather in anyone cap as far as furthering their career. Besides, the luck of Shanter & Stewart none have had bigger & better careers after Trek than they did before. Only ones that hold them & Trek up on a pedistal are the fans.

 

As it's only Star Trek. A bit (Purely a guess $20 000 about five years ago), but nothing to crow about. I'd say more than enough to get by each week, but defintely not enough to have this extravagant lifestyle. I'd like to know if the actors of TNG and DS9 get less/more money as they were syndicated straight away. Also, now that the UPN is defunct, does this play a part in residuals?

I really think residuals are a joke, but unfortunately necessary. I mean who else gets paid for work they did ten years ago? That would be the life. Though unfortunately Paramount and any other coporation/network likes to squeeze every dime from their workers and make money out of them through syndication and merchandise so if the companies profit I guess so should the actor.

I really don't think it would be enough for them to stop working, like I said before it was Star Trek, Paramount would screw them over and Janeway would be the only one getting good residuals if such a thing occured.

The only ones making good money from Trek are Paramount and the producers.

Plus, as you said you've gotta consider the cost of living in Hollywood and that most of the actors have family and children to raise and put thru school. There goes most of what they make right there.
