Genesis Wave...yay or nay???

The first 2 were excellent I really enjoyed them. The third one was ok, but there just wasnt enough of a story left to justify a third book I think they could have wrapped it up in 2 books. But as a whole story I really enjoyed the genesis wave.

I think I have a post talking about the Genesis Wave ('quadrilogy'??? Is that a word?) somewhere on the boards...

I've read three of the four myself; the first two pretty much sets up and ends the main story...the others deal with the aftermath...

I liked them. They were pretty light and quick reads...

I've just recently got my hands on the audiobook versions of all four Genesis Wave books. I've listened to the first two books, and it seemed that the story concluded. As others have said in this thread, the third book is, so far, extremely disappointing. I've noticed a shitload of continuity bumps as well, but as these books were written before the "concerted effort to maintain a tighter continuity from book to book" policy, it can be forgiven...I guess ;). Hopefully the third one gets better and Genesis Force is at least decent.

what do you mean by "continuity porn"?

The term refers to fiction that overindulges in making references to characters and elements from existing series continuity, doing sequels or crossovers, exploring how events or elements from different episodes or shows tie together, explaining contradictions between them, etc. Some have used the term to refer to things like, say, The Eugenics Wars throwing in cameos by virtually every 20th-century character ever established in Trek.

You mean like the entire New Frontier series by Peter David? It's like every major guest character of TNG appears there.

I enjoyed "Genesis Force", along with the first two "Genesis Wave" books, but as you say the third is disappointing. In my eventual planned massive-internal-chronological reread (scheduled for next decade some time ;)), I'll likely skip book three and move straight to "Genesis Force". This has the added benefit of letting me avoid the dreaded continuity violations (although as you say they weren't really violations at the time):).

For what it's worth, even I agreed it was a bit much in "The Eugenics Wars" books. :)

I liked them a lot. I agree they could have stopped after the second book as there wasnt much left for the third one. But they were a good set of books.

Okay...so now i've finished the third audiobook and unfortunately, it never got any better. It seemed like the first two were well plotted out and flowed quite well, but the third book felt like Mr. Vornholt wrote it over a long weekend :(. I mean no offense to Mr. Vornholt by this...it seems as though Pocket Books asked him to turn the series into a three book series, but only after he'd already finished books 1 & 2. He did what he could. I'm about an hour into Genesis Force, and so far, it has been superior to GW#3. Will check back when i've finished...

I don't know whether JV suggested another instalment first, or whether he was asked by the editors because the first two books sold so well, but I've often said the only great thing about Book 3 was the cover. (I love it.)

I was very uninterested in "Genesis Force" until Worf shows up. The young boy and girl protagonists bored me to tears!

^As far as the audiobook goes, Worf was pretty much there from the beginning. This is the main reason that this book has kept me interested, as I am quite the fan of Worf :klingon:, and stories with Worf as an ambassador are few and far between :).

I've now finished the Genesis Force audiobook, and all in all, I enjoyed it. It was much better than GW#3, but there were still some continuity blunders. The one that stuck out the most in my mind was Jeremy Astor. Worf continually refers to Astor as his son. The ceremony was called the R'uustai, and it entailed Worf making Jeremy his honorary brother, not his honorary son. But other than that little thing, the book was decent. Hardly any "screen time" for the TNG lot, but plenty of Worf and Alexander :)
