B5 Lost Tales

Man... I really wish I could go, because jms has always been one of the most entertainign convention guests I've ever met.

Interesting interview. I had no idea that WB is sniffing around JMS after his writing job on "The Changeling" for a potential B5 movie. I also didn't know that he is writing a new "Forbidden Planet". I need to pay better attention.

Starship Polaris was the first person here to alert us to that remake of "Forbidden Planet", with the link he posted in this thread here. Be forewarned that there are some spoilers and changes, but the link and that thread are a good thread, well worth your time.

Like many others, I did enjoy TLT for what it was, but to be honest I'd rather not see any new B5 if it's going to be such a low-budget affair. If JMS could get the funding to do a big-budget theatrical feature, it was be fantastic, but other than that, I'd rather let the B5-verse stay dark and enjoy the stories already told.

TLT was okay. It was great seeing some of the cast again. But I can understand the what the point sentiment. Esp. with the Locksley story. I found Sheridan's story more interesting, and I wish they had just done a STV movie about that storyline. I found the Centauri prince creepy enough to be the great Cartagia's son.

I thought the ships looked good, but the interior of Babylon 5 looked pretty bad. Plus, since we know what happens to Sheridan already, there's not a lot of suspense.

I really wish JMS had just adapted the Legions of Fire trilogy in some form, unfortunately absent G'Kar. Those were epic novels. Some of PAD's best work. Or maybe wrapped up Crusade.

I can accept the barebones sets and the minimal cast -- in the past jms worked wonders with two people on a nearly empty stage. But if those scripts were the best he could give us -- and I assume he gave us his best -- it's time for him to let it go.

There wasn't much wrong with the second segment. It was very, very good in fact. The only problem was that it was very short.

The first segment, meh.

I have to agree with this statement.

"Over There" was much better because it involved Sheridan in the story; he had a choice to make. And that is very much in line with the series proper and the theme of choices and responsibilities. Unfortunately, we may never see the consequences of Sheridan's choice to allow Prince Vintari to live with him and his family on Minbar.

The concept for "Over Here" was good and I enjoyed it, but the major problem with it was that Lochley just functioned in the story. There was no crisis of faith or anything for her; she reacted mostly. I felt that she wasn't active in the story at all. In other words, there was nothing at stake for her. Okay, sure the station was threatened but we've seen that before and know how that goes. What about specific to Lochley? What consequence would there be if she went one way or another with Asmodeus?

There was no conflict with her. At least, internally, like there was with Sheridan in "Over There."

I'm in that small group that actually preferred the first segment. It was very B5-esque in addressing religion and the supernatural in outer space, and I thought the performance of the possessed guy was delightfully creepy.

I quite liked The Lost Tales. I mean, I hadn't built them up to the level of even a made for TV movie in my mind, so I wasn't disappointed when, for example, only a few of the characters were included.

To me, they were simply additional episodes. Both are not much longer than an episode...and a few of the actual episodes only featured a few of the characters.

Sure, they could have been better with a larger budget. That goes without saying as any B5 fan knows that the additional money would likely have gone into securing more of the actors and thus bringing back the level of intrigue that was present during the show.

But JMS did the best he could with what he had. And I am thankful for that.

Frankly, it was just nice to have some new B5. :)
