11th Doctor Casting announcment tommorow

Very much looking forward to this, despite what the typical whinging shitheads are saying (seriously people, can't you at least wait until he's spoken one damn line before spouting off like crybaby fanboy bitches?).

He has HUGE shoes to fill, but I think he'll bring something special to the role. Reminds me of a cross between Tennant and Peter Davison. Seemed like he conducted some of the interview in character too.

Excellent! Maybe Paterson Joseph could be the 12th.

I haven't seen Matt Smith in anything, so I've no preconceptions. I hope he does well in the role, but we'll have to wait a while to see.

I think the best part of this thread is that we had this post:

I do love the sheer chutzpah of it- oh Steven Moffat, you weren't satisfied with waiting until May 2010 to piss off the fanbase.

followed immediately by this one:

Who the fuck is Matt Smith?! Out of all the good people rumoured they pick this guy?

I love the internet! :guffaw:

Never heard of him, but that was the same with Eccleston and Tennant, and they turned out OK IMHO.

Watching "Doctor Who" fans respond to change makes some of us Trekkies feel less odd.
you think this is bad? ive seen it ALOT worse than this.
actually can I just add to that?

*yes you may*

Thanks

it actually surprises me how badly Dcotor Who fans take change, I can kinda understand it in Trek fans, before 12 months ago the idea of anyone else playing Kirk was crazy, and would get you banned from the internet from even suggesting it, but the Doctor has changed many times, its within his nature, it should be within the nature of his fans to accpet that.

Ive said this before but I would to see how the interact would have reacted to the very first regeneration, when we had no idea what was going on, and no clue what so ever he was about to change, or who into.

Well, I'm underwhelmed by the choice, but really there's nothing to speculate on given his lack of track record that I've seen.

Con: Too young. I'm traditionalist enough to think a Doctor should generally start out in his early 40s. Fine to vary around that, but this makes four in a row who've been 40 or younger - it felt like time for someone a bit older for a change. If only because there's plenty of actors I'd like to see in the role who'll probably be too old next time round now, whereas this chap could have been in the running any time in the next 20 years.
But... But Moffat was starting out from the same point, but was then won over by Matt Smith's audition, which has got to count for something. And he's the closest thing to a total unknown since Tom Baker, and that worked out well (yes, I know Tom had done Shakespeare and film roles, but he was probably the most unknown to the general public, the others all having had lead roles of some sort in TV or radio).
And that's really all you can say at this point. I guess I'll be in the 'Ok, hope you prove my gut feeling wrong' camp come 2010.

he's got an Olivier award for his theatre work, therefore he must be a damned good actor. they don't give them out to anyone.

personally, I'm okay with this. alright, i was rooting for Tom Chambers, but that's no biggie.

now, i'm campaigning for Jemima Roper for companion!

What about River Song?

The thought of River Song with this guy, that's weird. Weirder than new teeth.

I've just been thinking about that myself. I still don't think Moffat's all that likely to bring her back, but it would sure be an interesting dynamic.

I'm wondering if it's going to be an older companion to go with the younger Doctor?

Getting a companion that compliments a younger Doctor is going to be hard.
The problem is accentuated by the over sexualisation of the Doctor in recent years.

Davison got away with companions quite close to his age cause at that time the idea of the Doctor having a romantic relationship with a companion was never on the cards.

Now it's going to be very difficult to have the Doctor and companion being similar in age without there being romantic overtones.

I'm sure they will find a character and actor that will work as a companion to Matt Smith's Doctor- but it will be tricky.

Like everyone else, the first time I heard the news I cringed, but watching his interview put most of my fears to rest.

Yeah he might be young, but thankfully he isn't just some generic pretty boy. He's got a nicely odd, geeky kind of look to him I like (hell, Davison and Tennant were probably more conventionally attractive than this guy).

Not to mention the fact he's got a genuine British accent, which even to an American like me sounds lightyears better than what Tennant was using. lol :D
