The Cage Remastered...screencaps?

I know that The Cage never aired in it's remastered form but now it SHOULD be out on DVD with the S3 set.

Has anyone done the Trekmovie thing and done comparison caps of the improved FX?

Without digging my DVD set out... somewhere around 50-55 minutes maybe? It's the bridge scene sandwiched between the final two scenes of Pike in captivity.

It immediately follows the dialogue "Your ship. Release me, or will destroy it."

Having watched the remastered version last night, there are few differences really. The titles have been changed to feature a hubble inspired nebula shot (similar to the one right at the end of Turnabout Intruder). The transition shot from exterior saucer dome, right inside the bridge is convincing and seemless. The only other things of note, are a side on fly-by just after Pike orders a course for Talos IV and a new shot entering orbit around the planet.

ex-astris-scientia showed the changes to the library computer readout in a recent update. I like the alterations...they still stick to the original feel of the computer images but include needed updates to show the passage of time since 1964. I'd have tossed in an image of Zefram Cochrane's Phoenix warp ship and Jonathan Archer's Enterprise NX-01 just to add flavor and in-universe continuity, but meh. Whaddya gonna do.

As would I. But Rossi & the Okudas were cautious throughout even adding the slightest nod to modern Trek, fearing extreme fan critism... akin to switching ghostly Anakin actors in ROTJ. Okay, maybe that's not quite fair. Those history photos go by pretty quick. As it turned out, the alterations are in keeping with the episode and are done with great subtly.

And as I said...I really like the new progression of images. Very true to the original. The only changes I'd have made to the new images AT ALL would have been the Phoenix and NX-01. Other than that? Awesome.

Of course, mind you...that's the SYNDICATED, truncated version you saw. Not the hour-plus unedited version with all the effects and dialogue. The DVD version will be uncut with a few more effects probably thrown in because of restored footage not allowed in syndicated edits because of a smaller one-hour slot.

TrekCore used to do a good job of posting those caps, but lately they have fallen off the reservation...

...I am sure it takes a while to get all those screencaps...and put em up on the web...

They continue to update the site. They finally got screencaps and information for ST3: TSFS up on TrekCore.

The discs with S2 & S3 of TOS-R have only been out a few months. Give them time.

I really wish Paramount/CBS would get off their collective rear and release a Blu-Ray version of the remastered episode sets already. I guess they're waiting for some sort of tie-in to the new film or something; but I think thhe sets would sell as well as anything else that's put out for Blu-Ray.

Agreed, especially considering how limited the BluRay market still is in comparison to regular DVDs and HD-DVDs. TREK discs would sell better if they just bothered to market them better. Having the new movie coming up in mere months can only help sales.

And in my opinion that'd include selling them at a lower price.

I mean, you look at some TV show season sets, like SMALLVILLE, they go for $40 a pop.

Compare that to the traditional price of ANY Star Trek show's season sets. Maybe three times as much? (Certainly over twice the price at any rate.)

If they sold them for less there'd be far more buyers and they'd likely end up with more profit than they do now.

Am I the only one DREADING the inevitable swictch over to Blu Ray ONLY production?

I HATE Blu Ray...it's 1/3 more expensive than even HD dvds...

There's no reason to pay more than $50/season for ANY TV series...DVD revenue is pure gravy after the miniscule cost of transfer (and the new filmless cameras eliminate even THAT).

And watch out for the sneak (only $30, but it's for HALF a season) sets...

I saw my local Best Buy mark ENTERPRISEs Seasons 1 and 2 down to $35.99 or $39.99 once during a local manager's markdown or some such deal on a special weekend for the store branch. That was as cheap as I've seen an unopened box set of TREK episodes from any of the series in a long, long time.
