At what point (time-wise) in the episode do we actually see this?
Without digging my DVD set out... somewhere around 50-55 minutes maybe? It's the bridge scene sandwiched between the final two scenes of Pike in captivity.
It immediately follows the dialogue
"Your ship. Release me, or will destroy it."
Has anyone done the Trekmovie thing and done comparison caps of the improved FX?

Having watched the remastered version last night, there are few differences really. The titles have been changed to feature a hubble inspired nebula shot (similar to the one right at the end of
Turnabout Intruder). The transition shot from exterior saucer dome, right inside the bridge is convincing and seemless. The only other things of note, are a side on fly-by just after Pike orders a course for Talos IV and a new shot entering orbit around the planet.
