Space shuttles for sale: one careful owner, starting price $42m

^ Wouldn't that kind of be like starting up a limousine service by buying up old 1976 Lincoln Continentals?

Personally, I'd prefer to drive a classic.

I wonder if they have any Apollo capsules for sale....

That SpaceShipOne guy should buy them and keep them flying. :D
Nah, bad idea. Granted, the shuttles are some of the most impressive technology from the seventies, but they really are showing their age. Imagine what could be done today if a reusable spaceship was ordered…

You could claim salvage on one of the ones they left behind on the Moon.
Those aren't capsules, the capsules never landed but stayed in orbit around the moon, the only spacecraft(ish) things left on the moon are the LEM landing gears.

I know that, I was using a bit of artistic licence for the purposes of comedy.

Sorry 'bout that (I kinda knew though) but you could have been one of those younglings that have no idea about the early days of space exploration…

As for comic license, that thing was a bit like telling a joke with three men walking into a bar -but the punch-line needs there to be only two of them.

You would get that from me.

And I'm not a "youngling" either.
I know; you're an old fogie, like me, probably saw both the moon shots and Star Trek (-original) back in the day :rommie:

I still think it was a weak joke though :p

No, I didn't, but I'm hardly ignorant of how the moon landings worked. I'm not exactly what you'd call a noob when it comes to Star Trek, either.

I imagine there are people a lot younger than you or me who have a much greater understanding of the technology behind the Apollo programme than either of us.

I still think it was a weak joke though :p

We've discussed the conflicts between my sense of humour and yours before. Let's not go down that road again, eh ?

I think you may very well be right there; to me the NASA moon program was just something on TV back when I was a kid but the Soyuz/Apollo meet-up was a moment I didn't want to miss…

Concerning humour; I just thought it was a question of computers… no more no less.

Well, it's Andy Griffith. You can't really hate on Matlock.
True. Come to think of it, I'd really like to see Salvage One again, even though I was ambivalent about it at the time. A DVD set would be nice.

Well, first the spaceshipone guy would have to get up to a 1950s level of capability. LEO would be a good start.

Sub orbital is one thing. An orbital craft is a wholly different creature, and I'm holding my breath on that one.

By the way, I was kidding about the SpaceShipOne guy flying the Shuttles. It's nerve wracking enough when NASA flies them. Let's just put them in a museum and move on. ;)

I figured. I'm just always amused when I hear people going on about scaled composites, and how much NASA sucks compared with them.
