Top 10 Sci-Fi Tv Shows Poll by Sci Fi Channel

Mysterion,

I never really saw it classified as sci-fi before. In bookstores you usually see it in the 'literature' section rather than the 'sci-fi/fantasy' section.

re: Lost, yes

Shouldn't it be Battlestar Galactica (2003) rather than (2004)?
Seen as the miniseries aired in 2003 first. I don't see why that shouldn't be counted

Because.
What, because IMDB says so? And they're never wrong are they

btw, so I take this is just gonna turn into "what are your own top 10 scifi shows"?

Whatever. Go sit in the corner and argue with yourself over the World's Dumbest Thing Ever To Worry About.

And yes, the original poster asked us for our top 10, so this is another one of those threads.

Whoa..... not necessary. It's just a simple, goofy fun thread with some differences in opinions.

As a fan of the radio series X Minus One, it's hard for me to hold The Twilight Zone in much esteem.

1. Star Trek: The Next Generation
2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
3. Star Trek
4. Star Trek: Voyager
5. Firefly
6. Stargate: SG-1
7. Smallville

I wouldn't list any others as great, but the following were notable programs (omitting series which were fantasy-only):

The Adventures of Superman (1950s)
The Avengers (1960s)
Babylon 5
Batman (1960s)
Batman (various titles, 1990s)
Doctor Who (The one with the scarf)
Exosquad
Farscape
Justice League/Justice League Unlimited
Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century
Teen Titans
X-Men

This changes regularly, but at the moment:

1. Star Trek
2. nBSG (might move up or down depending on how it concludes)
3. Star Trek TNG
4. Firefly
5. Star Trek DS9
6. X-files
7. Twilight Zone
8. Babylon 5
9. Farscape
10. Lost

How Stargate SG1 made any best of SciFi list is beyond me.

After 20,000 votes, Firefly is ranked #1 sci-fi tv show.

Here are the results:

TOP 10 TV SHOWS
1. “Firefly”
2. “Battlestar Galactica” (2004)
3. “The X-Files”
4. “Heroes”
5. “Stargate: SG-1”
6. “Doctor Who”
7. “Star Trek: The Next Generation”
8. “Babylon 5”
9. “Star Trek”
10. “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”

So what would your top 10 be?

Normally, I'd laugh at the fact that most of the items on that list were made in the last decade or two, but in this case, there has indeed been a sort of revolution of fantastic televised SF lately, so it does make sense.

My list, of course, would be different.

The Twilight Zone (original - how can this not be on the list?)
The Prisoner
Star Trek
Star Trek: TNG
Star Trek: DS9 (all 3 of the first 3 Trek shows are equally masterful, in my opinion)
The X-Files
Battlestar Galactica (new)
Lost
Doctor Who (the new is, on average, much better than the old, but it's the same show, so I lump it all together.)

Hmm...that makes 9. What's left? I haven't seen enough Firefly, although I thought the movie was passable. I dunno. I guess I only love 9.

The Avengers
Star Trek
TNG
Battlestar Galactica 04
Firefly
Twilight Zone
Lost
X-Files
Journeyman
Space: Above and Beyond

Buffy
Angel
BSG (new)
Star Trek: DS9
Firefly
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek :TNG
Smallville

Those are all the shows that I've actually watched the whole run. Someday I'll watch Babylon 5 and Farscape and I'm sure that they'll make the list.

1. nuBSG
2. DS9
3. B5
4. TOS

After that, there's no real order. I enjoy or have enjoyed TNG, X-Files, Space: Above and Beyond, and some others I'm probably forgetting right now :D.

1. Farscape
2. Battlestar Galactica (2003) :p
3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
4. The Twilight Zone (1959)
5. Star Trek (1966)
6. The X-Files
7. The Prisoner (1967)
8. Babylon 5
9. Firefly
10. Stargate SG-1

I don't think I could put them in an official order but this is a pretty close approximation:

Firefly
Farscape
(nu)Battlestar Galactica
DS9
Star Trek
Lost
Cowboy Bebop
The X-Files
Neon Genesis Evangelion
The Twilight Zone

Firefly
Star Trek: Enterprise
The X-files
Terminator: TSCC
Daybreak
Alias
Lost
Star Trek: TNG
Journeyman
Battlestar Galactica (2003)

This is just a rough list. The top five or so are pretty firm, but the rest are more of a collective 6th place type grouping.

I'll give honorable mention to The Twilight Zone (old and new) and The Outer Limits because some of their stories (most of which were stand-alone) were pretty cool, but largely they just sucked.

Mysterion,

I never really saw it classified as sci-fi before. In bookstores you usually see it in the 'literature' section rather than the 'sci-fi/fantasy' section.

Granted you find Nineteen Eighty-Four in the literature section more often than not as it is regarded as a classic of english literature.

However, I think it can just as easily be classified as science fiction, especiall given the time it was written/published (1948). There are a number of speculations and extrapolations of social and technological trends and devices in the book. In my way of thinking, this makes Orwell's book science fiction.

Yeah, Jesus Christ dude it was just a friendly question. You go sit in the corner and calm the frig down

Right, so if we're doing this then I may as well join in. My faves would have to be...

1. Battlestar Galactica (2003-) ;)
2. Angel
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
4. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
5. Firefly
6. Now & Again
7. Star Trek: The Next Generation
8. Spaced
9. The X-Files
10. Star Trek: Enterprise (Seasons 3-4 mainly)

One thing I feel like mentioning is I know Buffy isn't the most popular show on this board, but actually in terms of fandom I'd say it’s the biggest genre TV show of modern times outside of Star Trek by far (Star Wars is more movie based so that doesn't count)

Outer Limits X 2
Star Trek
Twilight Zone (original)
Babylon 5
SG-1
Alien Nation
X-Files

Starting strong but failing in the end---Lost, Farscape and Heroes.

I see I only got to eight series. The sad lesson of such retrospectives is that television scifi is seriously harmed by the insistence that SF is intrinsically stupid, therefore not subject to normal standards of dramatic excellence---or for that matter, elmentary notions of sanity or even mere coherence. Wish fuflfillment forever!
