Anyone think they might release Lego products based on the new movie

I was wondweing if Lego was going to do any products for Star Trek. Imeand they did ones for the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and The Dark Knight. It would be a very cool idea.

Seriously doubt it.
I believe it would be a very smart move(on account of just what they would make off me lol)
but they tend to focus more on the "kid-centric" themed heroes and adventures.

And seeing as they are still running the Star Wars lines and seem to have no intention of
stopping, there's not much incentive for them to business wise.

Re: Anyone think they might release Lego products based on the new mov

I was hoping for Minimates but DST lost the movie license to Playmates and even though they're a mass market company and don't make block figures, they won't share.

As for LEGO, they don't have a lot of licensed properties. They generally stick with Star Wars, Batman, and Harry Potter. If this Star Trek resonates with new fans who are LEGO collectors or somehow appeals to LEGO's target demographic, they might look into acquiring the license.

They might perceive it as conflicting with their Star Wars brand, though. I know they've offered Batman and Spider-Man before, but they can compliment each other as much as compete.

Yeah notice they phased out the Spidey sets though as the Batman sets took over?

And like I said I don't think the SW sets are going anywhere anytime soon.

In a movie year they'll do that. Whatever's getting the biggest tie-in at the moment is what retailers crave most. This summer it'll be Harry Potter LEGO.

Not with a new cartoon and the promise of a live-action series around the corner, no. Star Trek (at least this Star Trek) is a one-shot event film. Nice big May release ushering in the summer season (good for Playmates) but whether it becomes anything more is anyone's guess.

Personally I hope it does well but I'd still sooner see a TV series than a movie franchise. I think retailers and manufacturers would, too.

Yes, LEGO Star Trek would be cool, but Lucasfilm's licensing agreements generally preclude companies that license Star Wars from licensing Star Trek as well. As long as LEGO produces Star Wars LEGO products, they're probably contractually obligated not to license Star Trek.

Are you kidding. I've been working at Toys R Us for 16 months and I yet to see anything Star Trek related there.

I've been a Lucasfilm licensee for over 15 years for several different companies. In my experience, LFL has never made such a stipulation, verbally or otherwise. I'm actually having a tough time thinking of ANY licensors over that time that would have made such a demand, and I've worked with Disney, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Mattel, Hasbro, DreamWorks, and Warner Bros. among others.

Right or wrong, it's just generally considered a conflict of interest by most potential licensees.

Re: Anyone think they might release Lego products based on the new mov

Seeing as how George Lucas' ILM has helped Trek time and again over the years, I don't think it's far-fetched for Lucasfilm to team up for a Star Trek endeavor, anyway.

Still, I'd love to see a Star Trek Lego game. Some things would have to be embellished, sure, but what's Star Trek without embellishing? :)

Back in the 90s Galoob made both Star Trek Micro Machines and Star Wars Micro Machines. At the same time.

Re: Anyone think they might release Lego products based on the new mov

I haven't bought any legos in a while. I think the last set I bought was the X-wing, which has been out for some time now. What sets could they release? Maybe:

-shuttle
-bridge
-Spock's timeship
-some sort of space-drill set with space-suited figures and rommies
-the robocop w/ bike
-Some kind of Nero-based thing from whatever the climax of the movie is.
-An academy-based set

Now that I think about it, a Lego Space Octopus would be badass.

Hmm, speaking of Badass...

Re: Anyone think they might release Lego products based on the new mov

I'm hoping that Trojan might release products based on Nero's ship.

That should change very soon. Toys R Us is now going to sell Diamond Select's Star Trek products. This month, in fact. Plus, in April Playmates' Trek XI toys will be out, as well as Star Trek SceneIt.

Who wants to see Captain Kirk in Lego?

I understand they have one project they're keeping under wraps for a post-movie release...

The "Horrified Trek Fan" Lego man.

GOD I HOPE SO!
But don't orient them to kids. Market to adults and just make it child friendly.

Oh, and get some amateur builders to design the stuff, fan made legos are SO much better than stock kits.
Example:
Released one:

Fan-made one:

And an example of how awesome a lego Enterprise COULD be!
