Maybe Republicans Are Starting To Make A Comeback

But it's the law of the land. The Bible isn't.

Laws can change. Be ignored.

Laws can be reinterpreted. To get around them.

Laws can be applied differently at different times. For those who can't read.

All to serve the greater good. To serve fascist dictators.

The Ten Commandments were written in stone. In some myths...

The Constitution was not. No, it was our hearts and minds.

Understood and, apologies.

I find it highly illogical that one would completely disregard the Constition of the country they live in, in favor of a supposed set of "Ten Commandments" that would have been written(carved in stone) thousands of years ago for a race of people far removed from our day and time and issues.

And the only thing that could be gained by the twisting and bending of such laws and ethics would be for those in positions of power over those who look to the Constition for protection against just that sort of thing.

I was really down after the election.

But now it seems the GOP will retain enough Senators to thwart the Obama Admin. from time to time and they've already had some success blocking the auto industry bailout.

Plus, they took the long time Democratic House Seat in Louisiana and JEB Bush has indicated he wants to run for Senate in Florida in 2010, indicating a possible resurgence for the Bush family.

This combined with the Democratic corruption in Illinois and perhaps things are starting to look up.
really down after the election?
after what george bush and the rest of his criminal administration have done to this country you should be doing backflips after obama won.illegal wiretaps, rendition, and torture are not part of the america i grew up in!

I don't give a flying rip about wire tapping.

To me if you have nothing to hide then why be concerned.

As for the rest, if evidence indicates someone is a member of a terrorist cell, I have no problem with inflicting some level of physical pain in the course of questioning.

The lives of hundreds or thousands of Americans are worth much, much more than inflicting pain on some terrorists.

again i will quote franklin"those willing to give up some freedom for some security deserve neither"! you have no problem giving up your rights? well, sorry i do! where does it end?by allowing bush and his cronnies to strip away our rights you are opening up pandoras box and will do nothing more than start a trend towards fascism.if we torture prisoners , many of whom may be innocent we are in essence becomming no better than those who attacked us on 9/11!all we will do by our actions is to engender more hatred towards the u.s and incure more attacks. as it is right now bush and company have become the greatest recruitment tool al-queida has ever had.actually opening up a dialog and attempting to understand those who would attack our country and trying to resolve our differences will serve us better than endless aggression in freedoms name.wake up people! 9/11 occured on bush's watch!he and his administration had forewarning. the nsa document was on condellesa rice's desk a month prior to 9/ 11 . "bin laden determined to strike u.s using commercial jet's!" it was the incompetence of this administration that allowed those attacks to happen. wise up and stop drinking the republican coolaid.

Most of the planning for the 9-11 attacks occurred while Clinton was president.

Most of the terrorists entered the United States while Clinton was president.

No president deserves blame for the events that were set in motion before he became president.

Just as President Obama will not be responsible for the recession the U.S. is suffering through now.

one more thing about torture. are you aware that we tried, convicted and executed japanese prisoners at the end of world war 2 for war crimes related to them engaging in the same sort of torture you are endorsing? that makes us no better than them! sorry , we should maintain a higher standard than that. also, any expert will tell you that torture doesnt work. when someone is under physical durress he will tell you what you want to hear to end the pain.

sure thats it. be an apologist for the bush administration. the fact still remains that he did nothing to protect us prior to 9/11 and ignored the facts that had been presented the month before.that is not "before he became president". really? right wing talking heads such as limbaugh and hannity are already calling this "obamas recession!"

Nothing wrong with being optimistic, but the Republican Party needs to do some fundamental reshifting before you'll see success again. As long as the party is chanting "Palin2012," I can assure you, you've got eight, strong Democratic years to look forward to.

The Republican Party has a long, long, long, long, long, long way to go *IF* it expects to be relevant. Leadership is weak, at best. The Party has never learned how to effectively deal with the news media. Also, the Party abandoned its Conservative values quite a while ago. IMHO, because the Religious Right has basically highjacked the Party, those who are fed up with that nonsense need to work to build-up and support the Libertarians. Libertarians are more reflective of The People.

The Republican Party had near absolute control over the United States government for the better part of a decade. We've seen what comes of Republican governance: Terrorist attacks upon the United States, a botched war in Afghanistan, the guy responsible for 9/11 not being captured or killed, lies to justify a war of aggression against Iraq, a botched occupation getting our guys killed in an Iraqi civil war, the increase of the divide between rich and poor, the collapse of the American economy, and class warfare against the working class.

They've fucked everything up. Time for something new!

  1. The Oklahoma City bombing of the Murrah Federal Building, the first ascribed terrorist attack on US Soil happened during a Democrat controlled government
  2. The World Trade Center was first bombed under the same Democrat controlled government
  3. The USS Cole was attacked by terrorists under the same Democrat controlled government

a botched war in Afghanistan

Even President-elect Barrack Obama says he's going to expand efforts, a surge, in that war.

the guy responsible for 9/11 not being captured or killed

But his operation have been badly fragmented and cannot effectively co-ordinate attacks. Most of the high level command structure has been captured or killed, and "the guy responsible" hasn't surfaced in 7 years.

lies to justify a war of aggression against Iraq

Using the same intelligence that the Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee are supplied.

a botched occupation getting our guys killed in an Iraqi civil war

No such civil war happened.

the increase of the divide between rich and poor, the collapse of the American economy, and class warfare against the working class.

Collapse of the American Economy due to the actions of people named Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, and Christopher Dodd, all Democrats and all of whom chair the various finance committees. They all told Fannie May and Freddie Mac to increase the number risky mortgages all in the name of helping people buy houses they couldn't afford. Democrats are the ones who fed the fires of class warfare by vilifying the so-called rich.

They've fucked everything up. Time for something new![/quote]

True. No one will vote for you because of your stance on teh gheys if you're raping the treasury. There's no "positive" involved in that platform. You're either for the people via rights (traditional Democrat) or for the people via money (traditional Republican).

1. Oklahoma City happened on April 19, 1995. Republicans had the majority of both houses by this point.

2. The World Trade Center bombing was on February 26, 1993...36 days into Clinton's first term and the Democrats' control of two branches of government.

3. The USS Cole was attacked on October 12, 2000. Republicans had the majority of both houses.

I mean "Thou shall not kill", pretty straight forward right? Ohhh..."but war is ok".

Actually it is "Thou Shalt Not Murder".
Actually, the original is in Hebrew.

  • No one really thought the dems would get 60.

  • The dems haven't lost a seat in two elections, which is amazing.

  • A black guy won the presidency which I figured the asshole south would stop.
That was when they were running against Bush, though. Look at the Georgia runoff - nobody expected the Democrat to win, but he got *slaughtered* without the Presidential race on the ballot. Democratic voters there certainly haven't been voting for the Democrats - they've been voting either against Bush or for Obama.

This stuff is always cyclical. Great Divine History Teacher, let thou patrons know political power waxes and wanes, and the two party system is the most stable system known (which means it's not going one party any time soon, unless that nuke on the horizon hits its target) :klingon:

I think that factor has hurt the Republicans over the years.

When Republicans win big in elections they tend to think "that's it. we won. game over. Now can we all go back to making money".

When the Democrats lose, they realize it is just round one and come back fighting. They realize that no election is permanent in the U.S.
I dunno, I've seen a lot of liberal pundits acting like the Republican party is over.

I would be reluctant to embrace a party whose only successes so far are in science fiction novels!

You really think Obama is going to overturn the patriot act? :rommie:

Not a chance.

The Patriot Act is overturned.

Then a major terrorist attack strikes the U.S.

Whether such a terrorist attack might have been prevented or not, the conventional wisdom will be

"The Patriot Act kept the U.S. safe for years. Obama got it overturned. Look what happened!!"

The Democrats go from rising majority party to out of power for a decade or more. Obama starts shaking down donors for his library early.
