If you could change a single scene in Enterprise...

Agreed. Just an excuse to get T'Pol and Trip in loose, baggy shirts and playing with one another's feet. It was done with good in-story/universe intentions, but executed very poorly.

I would have added a scene in "Silent Enemy,"

T'Pol sending an encrypted communication to Soval:

Soval: "Did the Romulans reveal themselves?"

T'Pol: "No they did not, but I am confirming previous intelligence reports...they have stolen our cloaking technology."

If you could change a scene in Enterprise what would it be? Not an episode, just a scene. Something that had you thinking “That was a good episode until…”

My choice, the early decon scene with Trip and T’Pol. I don’t remember the exact episode but it was very early in season 1. It was the first episode I saw and it gave me a bad impression of the series. At the time I thought the target market and idea must be cheap thrills for teenagers. This scene would have really worked later in the series. Let the characters develop, and put it in an episode where it could be a point that Trip comes to the uncomfortable realization that he has feelings for the Vulcan, and T’Pol would have to come to terms with falling for a human. As aired they were too professional. Later it could have been a scene where they struggled to remain professional and struggled to hide their desires from each other.

How long until someone mentions "the episode with will not be named?"

The decon chamber scene with Trip and T'Pol would be changed as a precursor to their future relationship. Trip commenting on Vulcans lack of emotions. T'Pol responding with:
"Commander, Vulcans have emotions...strong emotions."
She slowly walks towards Tucker
"We do feel...we feel angry, we feel sad"
She puts her hands on Tucker's chest, staring into his eyes
"We hate, we love...we desire..."
Tucker is hypnotized and leans forward to kiss her
"But..."
T'Pol pushes him away
"We suppress them...through discipline."
T'Pol walks out of the Decon Chamber
Tucker is stunned, grins, shakes his head
"Oh man, can't believe I fell for that!"

Wow, that would have been both cruel and awkward, and bashers would have had a field day - boards would have been flooded with comments like: "series premiere, and they already made a joke out of Vulcans" :rommie:
(I don't think Vulcans put hands on strangers' chests, so that would mean T'pol was teasing him on purpose).

Enterprise had its faults, but I liked the way Vulcans were portrayed as individuals; they could be intolerant bigots like Vanik, scheming traitors like V'las, psychopaths like Tolaris or a romantic fool like Koss. My scene would show that T'Pol as an individual is pridefull and doesn't like to be lectured - especially by someone like Tucker- and would not be above "teasing him on purpose" just to get one over on him.

I'd have loved subtle, quiet references to the Romulans among the Vulcan characters as well. You know T'Pol was lying or hiding details the whole time they were out in space prior to the minefield incident so as to protect Vulcan's reputation and image.

I'd also have changed the scenes in "Strange New World" involving the hallucinations of the rock creature by showing it more often and in more shadows and darkness to make its appearances spookier.

I would have Trip's future uncertain, instead of having him die.

You know, I would have him die, but maybe have a better death.

My choice of "it was good until..." moments would be: I'd have Sim live. I think in fact it might be interesting if Trip died and left Sim in Similitude. I think it would create interesting tension on the ship, especially if he had Trip's memories (dumb), Trip's looks, but didn't have the history with the other characters.

Trip could still have died in "TATV" but it could have happened in some tragic Jupiter Station or ground-based accident prior to the Charter signing he wanted to see so badly. Something on the surface so random and meaningless, but having more nobility and long-term purpose than the aliens boarding Enterprise and Trip basically committing power-conduit suicide to stop them.

It's not really all that important how he died. What matters is an emotional impact on his friends, something that in TATV simply was not present! Malcolm didn't care, Hoshi & Travis didn't care (but they did whine about their lousy seats), even Archer didn't seem to care at all. T'pol kinda cared, but just barely.

Remember Jadzia? A dumb way to die, but her death resonated (remember Worf's roar?)
Tasha Yar - horrible way to die, but that memorial at the holodeck showed us just how much she was cared about.
Spock - need I say anything? (even Saavik cried)
Data - Nemesis sucked, but that toast was a nice touch
Trip - Hoshi: "That redneck hillbilly never even finished college!" Malcolm: "Yeah, what a hick!" :wtf::wtf::rommie:

Not to mention that Archer could've made the speech about him and his loss, but I guess B&B thought "Computer, end program" was a way better valentine to the fans.

I fear HR will come in and ask me to get back on topic, but ... TATV wasn't about "OMG, how can we survive without Trip?" but instead "Yay, Trip enabled life to continue!" It's about hope. I'm glad they didn't show the characters crying in the hallways; that'd be stupid. What I did think worked was Archer and T'Pol reflecting on Trip in his quarters. Classy and sophisticated, not melodrama.

"These Are the Voyages..."

Archer and T'Pol in their final scene:

T'Pol holds up her hand to stop Archer from hugging her

"Sorry Scott, I just can't finish this farce..."

Archer (Scott) looks stunned

T'Pol removes her Vulcan ears and wig, Jolene breaks the Fourth Wall

"*#%K THIS! WORST SERIES FINALE IN TV HISTORY! *#%KING APPALLING!" ....and walks off the set!

The 'Trip's quarters' scene was an insult to common sense and viewers' intelligence. Using words like classy and sophisticated in relation to TATV makes me wonder if you are in fact mocking us all...
The Mangels'/Martin's version of that scene made much more sense, but I guess you would find that book too painful to read, so don't bother crying *not canon!*, I'm fully aware of that. But since this is a thread about changing scenes, I'll just say that M&M's take on it would be the way to go.
