I'm very sorry to hear this Mr. Palmieri. While I'm new to post series literature, it has been some of the best stuff I've read.

After reading all posts on this subject, here are my thoughts:
1) It could have been worse and all the editors involved with Trek could have been laid off. (though they still can)
2) It's so disgusting how companies decide to fire people before Christmas instead of after. It's so wrong and selfish.
3) What will happen with the Titan line?
4) I doubt any changes will happen to the 2009 schedule
5) Just be glad that the entire Trek line wasn't suspended or canceled.
6) To save money, CBS might decide to merge departments which might cause losses to the media tie in lines.
Finally,

This concerns me -- given the timing, part of me wonders if there's an upcoming clearing of the deck related to the new film. If there's a narrative reboot in Trek, might TPTB want to go in a new direction with the novels? Not canceling them outright, but shifting focus back to TOS-era novels? New timeline TOS era?
A number of new TOS-era titles have been announced already for 2009/10, coexisting alongside books set in other timeframes. While it's natural to expect a greater emphasis on TOS over the next couple of years (certainly in comparison to '08, when the TOS era was mostly avoided), I see no reason to fear that the 24th and 22nd centuries will be abandoned.

TrekMovie's Anthony Pascale also has some nice things to say about Marco:
I seriously doubt that this reflects any sort of editorial policy regarding the TREK line. Remember, this was part of larger act involving dozens of employees outside the TREK department. Chances are, the executives who made the decision weren't even thinking about TOS vs TNG or anything like that. If fact, they would probably stare at you blankly if you asked them about "new timelines" and such.
This was all about trimming the budget, that's all.
Different people work in different ways - my predecessors as editor of Star Trek Magazine didn't post on the boards to the extent that I do, but that doesn't mean that they were any less effective at their jobs because they chose not to do this. Margaret has given interviews to the magazine about the lines she's editing and I hope will continue to do so!

Depends on the time and place. I first got to know Margaret when she ran the DC Comics TOS and TNG lines, and she had monthly interactions with the fanbase through the lettercols.
Don't forget, Marco wasn't active on this board for many months at a time, depending on his work commitments.
