The Dark Knight dvd thread

I'm getting my walmart one disk dvd on Friday after finals. If I watched it the night before i'll be thinking dark knight quotes instead of

"what is the media center on vista called?"

"uh "i'm a man of my word" ?

Best buy seems to have the best deal. Target has another lame mask deal like Ironman

I should hopefully be getting mine in the mail tomorrow; bought the 2-disc DVD edition from amazon!!!

It comes out tomorrow (well, today, since it's after midnight) so I'll be heading to the store to pick it up!

I got mine on Sunday since I have to go out of town. The advantages of being a loyal customer to a store for 10 years - and once dating the owner of its daughter.

I got it in the post from Amazon yesterday. Disc 1 was free from its moorings - it doesn't look very scratched - certainly I've got discs that play fine and look worse, but I've found you never know. I'll have to watch it as soon as I can to make sure its ok

There seems to be a fairly decent amount of bonus material, but I am a little disappointed that, like Begins, there's no commentary. Does Nolan just never do them?

You know, I'm the ultimate uber fan of a lot of things, but I can't stand commentary tracks, lol. I've only ever managed to listen to the ones for First Contact. I guess to me, it's like someone talking all through the movie. Just shut up! LOL

Now, if Ledger had recorded a commentary track... my god I'd be up for that one a few dozen times! But otherwise... :(

As to the disc being free... I'd hedge my bets and go for an exchange. If it stops working later, you'll kick yourself about it. All DVDs in the mail have the risk of this, but IMHO, Amazon is king of it.

You can still watch it before you return it, mind you. ;)

I only bother with commentaries on films and tv I know really well and love. Like, sadly, The Dark Knight. Normally I can't be arsed, but sometimes they can be very inciteful. Other times, as with the absolutely brilliant Futurama commentaries (which I can't praise enough), they are simply very entertaining, performed by very funny people.

As for the disk. I think you're probably right and I will return it (post watching). I have had this problem with Amazon before. Iron Man was a bit dodgy when I got it, it played after I cleaned the disk, but I wasn't happy about it.

Just watched it now, for the first time actually. I'm not going to watch a 12A rated film in a cinema, full of a bunch of obnoxious snot nosed brats. Awesome film though

If you want Chris Nolan commentaries, try the Special Edition of Memento, and Insomnia, both brilliant films.

I got mine yesterday, and for only £8.99 too.
I tested the disc out last night and watched some highlights of the film, excellent. But I don't think I'll watch the whole thing until around Christmas. I can wait :)

I thoroughly enjoy most commentaries, because I am truly interested in the POV of the folks who actually made the film. Whether it be the director or the cast or technical crew, I'm intrested in the side stories, the thigns that happened behind the camera. How they achieved certain effects or some of the friendships between people there. Even with that, I do understand the reaction of folks like you, Frontier. Sometimes it really does come across as if you're sitting next to somebody talking all through out film.

As to the The Dark Knight DVD, is there anything about Heath Ledger on there? I don't necessarily mean some morose lament but talking about workign with him, his approach to the character of the Joker, etc.

Both Memento and Insomnia have great commentaries by Nolan. I'm not sure, but I think Following has a commentary as well.

I'm unsure why these films are without commentary tracks.

Amazon screwed me over so now I'm not buying The Dark Knight. I bought Batman Begins for $4 on Black Friday and now they canceled it and told me if I wanted it I would have to reorder a substitute for $13. Screw you Amazon, you should give it to me for $4.

My first guess was they might be saving them for an enhanced release, but then there are both a 1-disk and 2-disk version being released. Neither of which have commentaries. :wtf:

The 2-disk release does have something called a "digital copy" of the movie. What is that, exactly, and what makes it a beneficial selling point?

(smacks head) - duh, of course.

I don't have an iPod and my cellphone is very simple model, so I never even think of that option. We do have software for ripping videos into forms that can be transferred to those kinds of devices, so the digital copy doesn't really add much value for me. But it has benefits for people who don't want to mess around with it. Wonder how they can protect such files from being distributed in an unauthorized manner, though.

The dual disc DVD is a total rip off and I don't recommend anyone buy it. It's almost ten dollars more (in Canada, anyway) and all you get is maybe 15 minutes of making of, which isn't even video, it's just behind the scenes stills set to the voice over of the pertinent parties. It's got a digital copy, which I still don't understand what the selling point is, who cares? And it's got the IMAX scenes in their original aspect ratio seperate from the film...again, who cares? THAT'S IT!

This will be double dipped fo' sho'. Total scam, don't buy it. You've been warned.

As if Warner Brothers hasn't made enough money off this. Jeez...
