How to I reveal to my girlfriend the dark secret...

If that were a deal-breaker for someone, that would be pretty sad. Better do it sooner rather than later fi you actually think it might be an issue. My ex wouldn't allow me to have Trek on if she was in the room. There's a decade down the drain.

^ Convert her to Trek, I managed, it was quite easy, actually. The hard part is getting her into B5 :(

Answer the door with nothing on but Spock ears and a smile. Tell her you want to do it "in the Beta Quadrant".

You'll have your answer soon enough....

that I'm a Trekker. She would not be impressed.

Are you kidding me?

My fiancee and I watch Trek everytime we're together. She ASKED me to borrow season 4 of TNG while we're apart... and I recently bought her a Commander Data figurine for fun. God I miss her.

You need a sci-fi girl :)

Slip in a "trek joke"/reference into casual conversation. Like if she says something smart/explanitory say "Thank you, Mr. Spock" in a playfully sarcastic way. Or when you're getting on the highway and your rushing down the acceleration lane say, "Warp speed, ahead, helmsman!"

Stuff like that. Gauge her reactions.

But in all honesty, if she's going to dump you over liking a TV series you're better off.

If her reactions are neutral/somewhat positive break it to her and then try and convert her. :) If her reactions are negative but not overly so, try and convert her.

If her reactions are strongly negative of the "eww gross" kind. Kill her.

...

Or dump her.

;)

I've been trying to figure out a way to get my husband to watch B5.

And yeah, it shouldn't be a big deal. She shouldn't have to watch it with you, but she shouldn't care if you do.

...and I suppose your girlfriend watches Masterpiece Theater... based on the crap most women watch, she's unlikely to be in a position to criticize.

Oh! I forgot to give you advice.

Anyway, I've had great success in the past getting girls to love Star Trek by having them watch these TNG episodes:

1. The Inner Light
2. Lessons
3. Tapestry
(some of Patrick Stewart's best work)

3. Data's Day
4. In Theory

6. The Ensigns of Command
(girls love Data)

Then, if all's going well... slip in:

5. Chain of Command 1 & 2

If she's loving it by then, you're home free. Experiment a bit with your favorites in season 3-4.

And, advice: if she resents you for all this, end it.

How short have you known this girl?

How young are you, anyway?

If you are that insecure about a girl breaking up with you because -- heaven forbid! -- you happen to be a Star Trek fan, then perhaps you are not secure in yourself as a man to be in a serious relationship right now.

Yeah, if she has a problem with a certain show you like, she's not worth your time. My ex wouldn't let me watch Trek when I was over at her house. I'd come over after a full day at work, just wanting to relax and an episode of TNG or DS9 would be on, but she would *not* stand for it being on. Honestly, that was a factor in my decision to break up with her.

The girl I'm currently interested in isn't a Trekker, but she's really into this ElfQuest comic so she would have no right to judge me. Besides, I've converted them before, I can do it again. ;)

One to talk, you are not.

Do like I did and find a hot chick who is way into Star Trek, then marry her! :techman:

Yeah, even *my* ex could tolerate my Trekkieness (she was witness to the time I actually used Star Trek *checks*). :p

Um...if she likes you as you are already, the fact that you enjoy a certain brand of TV shows should not be enough to damage the relationship. If it is, then that relationship isn't worth any more of your time.
