NFL Football - 2008-09 Season Discussion

The 49ers are the first west coast team to go east and win this season. This season now means nothing now that this team has done the impossible. ;)

Still can't believe they won, and in the ice rain no less.

Denver may be the hardest team to predict this season. One week they stink up the joint. The next... they look like contenders. :wtf: maybe Bellichek should send Shannahan a thank you note.

The AFC West is so awful that the Raiders are not yet mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

I think it was Greenberg on Mike and Mike this morning, who said in regards to that Chiefs vs Raiders game: "Felons should have been made to watch this game."

Well, come people didn't have a choice, unless they only wanted to watch one game that day. :p

Here's an interesting little stat that Don Banks pu tout on his report on SI.com:

The AFC West is led by:
- a 7-5 team in Denver,
- with San Diego second at 4-8,
- Oakland third at 3-9
- and Kansas City last at 2-10.

The NFC West is led by:
- a 7-5 team in Arizona,
- with San Francisco second at 4-8,
- Seattle third at 2-10
- and St. Louis last at 2-10.

DaleC76, looks like you were right on the mark when you said
It's only three hours, and the teams play once a week. The worst case scenario is they have to play at 10 AM their time.

I just don't think it has much to do with it. The west coast just stinks this year. In years were the west coast had really good teams, like 02 or 94, they actually had winning records in the eastern timezone.

Damned Vikings. It's going to be a long week of having to listen to their fans brag about how they're 1st in the NFC North.

Absolutely, utterly disgusting and unprofessional performance by the Jaguars tonight. I am ashamed to be a Jaguars fan right now.

Say what you will, but they are the worst team in the NFL right now. At least Detroit trys to win.

That's pretty debatable. ;)

Yeah those were 3 horid games on Thursday. I hope this weekend proves to be a little more competitive.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Pats against Pittsburgh. Here's hoping Cassel can keep it up.
It really makes me wonder just HOW these games are selected. With the advent of the NFL network and its placement elsewhere than on basic cable, I'm betting that the qualiy won't improve anytime soon.

Well you have to have a game in Detroit, who usually sucks. And you have to have a game in Dallas, who is usually a good watch. You need to have at least one of them be an interconference game so CBS and FOX can both broadcast one of the games, meaning you get some uninspiring matchup with no history to it.

Dallas-Seattle looked good on paper to start the year, Arizona-Philly still looks good, it just was a one sided rout.

It was on the NFL Network.

Which is a cable channel, normally offered on a tier above basic. IOW, not available to most viewers unless they pay extra. I am not sure where each of the other games that day were shown, but I think it was on regular network broadcasts.

I get NFL Net on my cable... I think it's in the second tier, which is what you have to have if you want anything beyond the locals

My 9ers beat the Bills! YAY FOR ME!

I read an article with a couple of interesting facts about Denver. Apparently, if SD loses and Denver wins, Denver will be one of the first teams in the league to clinch a playoff spot. Starting with their initial loss to the Chiefs, the 4 teams Denver beat have a record of 29-19 while their 5 loss are to teams with records of 23-36. I also read that Vegas oddsmakers incorrectly guessed Denver's games for six weeks in a row.

They are a young team

I wonder how much of that is home/away

Starting at KC, Denver is 2-2 at home and 3-2 on the road. The first three games that I keep ignoring were 1 road win and 2 home wins.
