Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

I chalk that up to Boldly Going where we've never gone before but if we must find a commentary, how about; juvenile delinquency or, if it turns out rumors of Kirks drunk abusive uncle are true; child abuse? Bam! 2 possible important relevant social issues from the opening sequence alone.
It is just another teaser and not a "trailer". They could be and probably, (hopefully) getting the point of it having Action out of way for now. I'd bet the full trailer will come across with a whole different tune, one which clearly displays the heart of the film as something more people, (translated Older Trekkies?) can connect with. We could be, and I suspect will be, surprised by social commentary embedded in this one.

Finally saw QoS today with the original version of the trailer in front of it (along with 45 minutes of other trailers) and of course since I've seen it so many times, I tried to get a read of the audience's reaction. There were these kids sitting in the row in front of me who could not have been any older than 10 and as soon as the shot of Kirk looking up on the partially-built Enterprise came up, they started whispering "Star Trek." I guess there's hope for the next generation after all.

Of course, it'd would have been nice if they kept still during the rest of the movie. Honestly, I was torn between starting a drinking game over every time an explosion happened in QoS (and I'm starting to think fuel cells and hydrogen powered cars aren't such a good idea) or when they stuck their darn arms up.

To be honest, "Insurrection" is probably maybe the only other movie that said something, but what it was saying was rather illogical and flawed. Star Trek would say things in small character moments, but the movies as a whole were't what some people try to make it out to be in their attempts to negate this movie as being "all action."

This may have been commented on, I'm not sure because I broke my personal rule and did not read all 50 odd pages of replies. However that may be, here goes.
I don't think the cop is a robot. I think he is simply wearing a mask. Probably for the combined purpose of wind protection and vision enhancement with a Head Up Display. Considering the Star Trek universe the fact that he could be a robot never even occurred to me until someone mentioned it here.

He could be a telepresence avatar, too. That is, a robot, but remotely controlled by a human operator with an augmented reality interface. Something like unmanned aerial vehicles used to perform surveillance of hostile locations.

I showed the trailer to my sister, a very casual fan, and tahts primarily as a result of having Trekkie brothers. Her exact reaction was, "Wow it's so different and not so dorky anymore!" and "It looks like an action movie" (both said in a positive tone)
I reckon if they could get away with it, Paramount would have "Wow it's so different and not so dorky anymore!" emblazoned in neon letters on every poster!
