Well to be honest (this has been said plenty of times before) it feels nothing like Star Trek except for the Vulcans. However, It does it look very entertaining in the same sense that Transformers was. Confusedmatthew sums up my views very well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsdmBFvdS-g
EM. For me, just about every moment of it evokes a memory of Classic Trek in one way or another. It's flashier but I sense core values are present within the pomp.
Like the part where mini-Kirk is racing the car over the cliff and the robot police stops him? Besides that though, it looks trekish but it will be more focused on action instead of social commentary or morals. Either way I'm excited.
Baby, you're much too fast.plus it's the fabled little red corvette![]()

Speaking of visual symbolism...anybody else notice the color of the car that goes over the cliff...Yeah, the car is the first redshirt in the film.

Except for TMP and TVH, when wasn't this the case with the movies?
This may have been commented on, I'm not sure because I broke my personal rule and did not read all 50 odd pages of replies. However that may be, here goes.
I don't think the cop is a robot. I think he is simply wearing a mask. Probably for the combined purpose of wind protection and vision enhancement with a Head Up Display. Considering the Star Trek universe the fact that he could be a robot never even occurred to me until someone mentioned it here.
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Interesting comments on the whole though.
I showed the trailer to my sister, a very casual fan, and tahts primarily as a result of having Trekkie brothers. Her exact reaction was, "Wow it's so different and not so dorky anymore!" and "It looks like an action movie" (both said in a positive tone)
