Right now, it's... wait what year is this? Strike? What strike? Hiatus? Movie? What the hell is going on here?! Anyway, I don't know what the heck is going on anymore and I feel I'm not alone here. But I know one thing is for sure. CTU better damn-well not get infiltrated from the damn sewer again! My name is Jack Bauer and this is the longest... two hours or whatever the time frame of this thing is of my life.

The following takes place between... not sure on Inaguration Day 2017... or something.

From TV.com

Set and shot on location in Africa, Bauer and mentor Carl Benton battle an international crisis, while here at home the nation prepares for a new president on inauguration day. Taking place just a few months before the new day dawns, U.S. State Department officer Frank Tramell and Jonah Hodges are pulling the strings that will set the stage and raise the stakes for Season Seven.

This Sunday premieres the 24 movie being used to set up the next season, begining early next year.

Number of days early, obviously, for this thread but I thought a few days of pre-discussion should be warranted to bring everyone up to speed.

Looking forward to this as it's been a LONG time since we've seen Bad Ass Bauer!

(Please do not vote in the poll until after the movie.)

At the moment I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie. Season 6 was on the whole rubbish, but I'd like to think in the extra-long 18 months we've had thanks to the strike they've had time to really pull everything together and give us something good...

Ever notice that however ddisappointed we might be in a season of "24", we always seem to get jacked when the next season - or in this case a new movie - comes around?

When the first preview for season seven appeared (back when the show was going to begin in January 2008), the voiceover guy promised it to be a season of 24 like we've never seen before -- and then Jack promptly says there's a leak in the FBI. Plus there was the torture scene right before. Different indeed.

We're gonna find out that Jack's actually in purgatory and everyone who's died at his hands or because of him is going to show up as a bad guy.

I'm excited for this season. I guess it's been just long enough between this and the travesty of season six (Really...outside of a scene here and there, including the great confrontation between Heller and Jack at the end of the day...is there anything of value people can remember? I have it on DVD, but haven't touched it yet...).

That said, I'm not sold on this movie yet. I'm pretty worried that it will become Jack saves Africa, and after studying western depictions of the continent in film for a semester, I can't say I'm moved to see the usual trope of cliches and stereotypes ported out again.

The first four episodes of Day 6 - which were written well in advance of production and were effectively a three-hour movie - were absolutely awesome. Unfortunately, all the writers' efforts had apparently gone into those three hours, with no thought of where they were going to go from there, and by the time episode 5 was over, the series had already dived headfirst into the toilet (yet would somehow manage to swill itself ever-deeper into the U-bend).

I'll still keep watching, though. I mean, it's Jack goddamn Bauer.

Trekker4747 you low down good for nothing...

THANK YOU for starting this thread. I had no idea there was a 24 movie coming up. I didn't think there would be anything til early next year.

Again thanks, if weren't for this thread, I think I would've missed this movie.

Robert

I am more than ready for some more 24!!! Finally! :bolian:

I bailed on S6 entirely so it's been a long dry spell for me. Please be good again, show.

I liked (but did not love) those first four episodes, and can appreciate them for what they were trying to do, but the tone felt off to me when I first saw them. More importantly, when you've blown your wad four episodes into the season, you're setting yourself up for failure.

But, yeah, I watched all the way through for about the same reason as you. Kiefer Sutherland is great as Jack Bauer, good writing or otherwise.

I'm kind of echoing EW's review. Times have changed from two years ago, and even then I was sick of Jack torturing answers out of people. If he still up to those old tricks, I'm out for good. They have to modernize the character and his methods.

Yeah.

They have to make him a Liberal Pansy!

;)

Indeed. I am very 'jacked' about this TV flick.

Bring on the big, brass, Bauer-balls!

:techman:

It was weird playing Call of Duty and hearing Jack Bauer tell me to use my flame thrower on Japanese soldiers. It's almost like the game is a warmup for the movie.

Tell me what I want to know or else I'll write a really stern letter to your family!

Maybe instead of torture, Jack could find out what he needs to know through, I don't know, good detective work?

Watch any cop show, and you'll see plenty of methods used to get information without torturing a suspect. Some methods are more believable than others, but very rarely will you see someone tortured on a cop show. Unless you happen to be watching The Shield, and even there it's not that frequent.

I am having a very hard time getting excited about this movie. I should be jumping for joy for new 24, and I'm not. I'm actually thinking about passing up this and just watching Amazing Race as scheduled instead. If I get more excited when we get closer, I might give it a look, but I'm not as "jacked up" about it as I used to be before. :(

:guffaw:

I hope Redemption is good. Season Six sucked donkey balls after the first six or so episodes.

I have to wait until next Sunday night to watch this ... so depending on what I hear from some people, it might depend on when I watch this.
