^No, they call it the Suggs Package. Because Terrell Suggs raised a stink about how Smith should be the starter, so Cam Cameron decided to activate those plays utilizing Troy.

Yeah, but the difference between Joe Flacco and Tyler Thigpen is that I have no idea who Tyler Thigpen is :p

Mangini must be recording Patriots practices. The Jets are leading 24-13 at halftime

guess he didn't get all of the practice, because the Pats managed to tie it 31-31 by the end. Of course, Jets drove down and got a field goal to win 34-31, but it didn't end up the lopsided game it appeared it was headed for when the Jets were up 24-6.

And the Jets don't get their last 7 points if not for a crap call on Vrabel during a play that Farve threw the ball away (phantom holding, even the commentators couldn't find it). Ty Law was getting away with more on almost every single play. Either that, or he just missed the Patriots so much that he couldn't stop hugging them :p

Interesting how 3 of the Pats' 4 highest totals for yardage in a game have come against the Jets.

Yeah, those were my thoughts as well. Sadly, the defense blew it on that 3rd and 15 in overtime, as you could see someone completely missed their coverage.

I realize hindsight is 20/20, but would you have gone for the 2? Herm Edwards went for it and failed, while Shanahan proved that it can be successfully done. Regardless, I've never been entirely a fan of sudden death overtime. A field goal is really a crappy way of losing especially when your team's the one on the losing end.

It depends on how well you think your offense stacks up against the opposing defense. If you think your probability of getting the 2 point conversion is greater than 50% of the probability of your successfully kicking the extra point, then you should logically go for 2 rather than send the game into overtime. Doing so isn't "risky". It's just playing the percentages, as each team is going to have a roughly 50/50 chance of winning if it goes into overtime.

Which brings up the point, should NFL's overtime system be overhauled? I was thinking something on the lines of having a 10:00 minute overtime, where both teams play it out in full. In regular season, if both teams are tied at the end of overtime, it's considered a tie. In the postseason, there could be a sudden death 2nd overtime.

Here's the thoughts I have for overtime:
It would be a regular 15 minute quarter, but each team would be guarenteed a single possession. If only one team scores, that team wins. If both teams score an equal number of points, or fail to score, then they are each guarenteed (time allowing) another possesson. In post season, it would be the same set up, except it would go through two quarters, if necessary.

On one hand, sudden death adds some extra excitement to the game. But, on the other hand, it almost literally comes down to who won the toss. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall a game last year where the announcers said the team that wins the toss wins overtime nearly 70% of the time.

That would certainly work better than the preposterously unfair setup currently in place.

Broadcast NFL sucks here today. I got stuck with Oakland/Miami as the early game and Arizona/Seattle or Rams/49ers as the late game. Ugh.

Welcome to the plight of those living in the SF Bay Area. :D

I'm currently in Seattle and we have the Denver/Atlanta game, thankfully.

I'm in the Raiders/Niners viewing area as well.

Thank God for the Sunday Ticket.

I'm watching Whatever the Hell I Want.

:techman:

^^^Wow, that really does stink. Wyoming got a good line up for CBS. We got Denver/ Atlanta, which was a good game, and it looks like we will be getting a snowy San Diego/ Pittsburgh game.

As for the Denver game, it was another comeback visctory orchestrated by Mr Cutler. The defense held up remarkably well. They couldn't stop on a lot of 3rd down, let one or two big runs go, and Bly let them have 2 big catches, but overall they kept Atlanta surprisingly reigned in, especially in the running game. There are a lot of rookies that are playing well for just starting, and Hillis is really starting to establish himself.
